laura, sarka and amber - you girls are the best - thank you so much for thinking of me... my appt went ok. re seems to think that this cycle was a fluke. he wants to try it again and that is really the only way we will learn more. he told me countless stories of women my age that this has happened to, and they did it 4 and 5 times and finally on the 4th or 5th cycle they got a "good batch." i assured the re that we cannot do that financially or emotionally. he understood. he was truly shocked to learn of last fridays events, but he seemed positive about everything. he wants to do zift and icsi combined next time, to assure that male factor has nothing to do with it even though dh tested fine. re is 99% sure that it was the egg quality, but wants to not take that chance. i will be on a completely different protocol this time - instead of doing lupron for a month, with heparin and pergonal at the end, i would do bcp and lupron at the end, along with pergonal human growth hormone and heparin. so..... there is a lot yet to figure out. i want to do this now, but dh wants to pay this off first. what do you guys think? it is 10,000 - no coverage - any thoughts? i feel like i am going to go crazy wondering if this is the way my eggs are or if it was just a bad cycle.
anyway, girls, thank you for keeping me in your thoughts and your post made my day - i am so blessed. i will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers as well. keep me posted and i will be checking in on you all - love, ken

Hi Jen!

Nice to hear from you! As you said the only way to find out about it is to do it again... which can be quite scary as you will be thinking about your last try... but I truly believe it was just 'bad collection' and you will be just fine... you are a young babe! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif

As for the payment... only you & your DH know how you can manage it finacially... some people like to start with a 'clean table' and some just go for it no matter what. It depens how long would that be a month or two? Do let us know how you decided.

Thinking of you, Sarka

Hey Jen
Wow, that seems like a lot to process. Your RE sounds very optimistic, but still offers no immediate guarantees (just like any of these methods, I guess)... It's reassuring that he has lots of ideas about ways to do things differently and maybe that's all it will take for you to be successful. And he could be absolutely right, that it was a fluke and next time will be problem-free.

You say it's 10 grand -- is the RE giving you any kind of break or discount or credit for the last procedure (since you didn't go all the way with it)? Sometimes I want to say to the RE, "put your money where your mouth is, doc!" I wish it were that simple.

If he's not giving you a discount, perhaps it's worth getting a second opinion from another RE? Get copies of all the results and let someone else make you an offer of what he can do for you. Maybe the 2nd opinion will convince you that your first RE was the best and that might help you make your decision.

I guess it's most important that you and DH talk about all your concerns and wishes and worries and that you both are united in your decision. Maybe you could make a three-way compromise -- your RE cuts the costs by 30% (at least), you wait a few months so you can pay off the old debt and then you try again?!!

Whatever you decide, know that we're here to support you and pray for your success!

xoxoLaura

YAY! A fluke! that is wonderful news, Jen! That is a lot of money and its wonderful that you were upfront and honest with your RE about things. I think it would be a good thing to move forward with this cycle, especially if you and DH both want to do it.

Good Luck honey and stay strong!

Jen,
It all sounds good, it seems like the RE is optimistic, which is an awesome thing! Even though it is scary, and worrisome, it is obviously something you and DH want deeply, I think you should go for it, honestly I know that financial decisions are so difficult especially the big ones, but this is also a BIG promising opportunity. You and DH should have some really open comunication on the pros & cons of the situation, and all will work out! Good luck with whatever you and DH decide, we will all be here for ya!
I am praying you get that BFP girl!

Hi Jen,

I know what you are going through. You try and stay positive and then you get knocked down. If you really trust and like your RE then I would stick with what he says. Since he is changing your protocol, he seems to know what he is doing. As far as the money situation, I am in the same boat. We paid for our last ivf cycle ($13K) out of our own pockets and got a negative. My DH wants to try again and I guess we will just have to put it on a credit card and payi it off monthly. A friend of his did the same thing and they did IVF 3 times before getting preg. He said when he was going through it he was so stressed thinking about how he was going to pay the bills but now he has 2 kids and he says it was worth it. I guess we just have to change our lifestyle a little and "go for it" I hope you are able to make a decision soon and that everything goes well with whatever you decide!
