View Full Version : No AF Mean No O?

Since Jan, I've had a week or 2 of light spotting/light bleeding on and off. I've not been having the normal af like since I was a teenager. I'm 27 now. Once or twice I even missed the spotting. If I'm not getting normal af flow, does this mean I'm not o'ing. We've been ttc 7mo now. I can't imagine the small amount of bleeding I have is a true af even though it can come at regular times each month. I've taken numerous hpts and gotten BFN. I did take a round of bcp to try and regulate my cycle/hormones. After I stopped, I had a heavy af that lasted 9 days and seemed like it should clean my system out. But the following month, it was back to 1 week of very light spotting/bleeding. Anyone experienced this? I have no pain or heavy bleeding so I don't suspect endo. I want to go to the dr but my gyn just quit so I need to find a new one. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I'm no doctor but I've seen plenty, lol!! I think that since you have been trying for so long with no results and very little to no af... you may want to suggest clomid to your new doc when you find one. It should induce healthy ovulation and regulate your periods. I have actually gotten pg twice from using it, but both resulted in loss. Not from the clomid but other issues. I would reccommend Clomid to anyone who has been ttc for a while. I think the first theng you should probably do is start bbt charting until you find a worthy doctor. Then I would start using opk's on cd 10 until you get a + or until you have finished the 7 day package. That is what my RE suggested at first, it is pretty amazing what you can learn for doing this. Chances are you will learn if you are or not O'ing. Then when you DO find a doc you can go armed with proof that you seem to have a problem. I sure hope this helps!! Let me know what you decide!!! Take care!!!

From what I understand, even if your flow is light, you may still be ovulating. You need to be gushing to be an indicator of ovulation. That being said, that doesn't guarantee that you are ovulating. katrina is right though, if you do bleed every month, you could start charting you basal body temp. every morning. Start from the first day of your bleed and count as day 1. That way, you will have something concrete/visual to look at. Also, before you take meds. your hubby should be checked as well, as it may not even be you. (especially if you do have af every month) Why spend tons of money and waste time if there's no need. It's the easiest place to start with. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Keep us posted, and I hope this helps.

Also get the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It will be able to explain the charting better. There are a few rules to follow besides taking your temp from the first day of your period on...
The book will explain a lot more that you can ever imagine. You can even get it at your local library.
Also I wouldnt head to the doctor just yet....7 months seems like a long time but most healthy couples take up to a year(and in some cases 2 years) to get pregnant when they are trying.

The flow isnt an sign of whether you O or not. my best friend actually skipped her period for 6 months(she has Endo so it wasnt that shocking for her to skip like that). She was getting ready to have another lap surugery done when her doc decided to do a pregnancy test to be on the safe side....it was +. She and her Dh were shocked and even more shocked when the u/s showed she was actually 3 months pregnant.

Ladies, thank you very much for your suggestions. Unfortunately, in Australia, that book doesn't exist (I've looked), however, I've researched a bit on bbt and charting after reading your posts and think I will try that as well as the o pred. kit. At least then when I go to the dr and he/she tells me to start there, I can be one step ahead. Thank you for the ideas/encouragement. Oh, and it's not dh. He had a child from a previous marriage so the problem seems to be me.

First just becuase your Dh has had a child with someone else doesnt mean there still isnt a problem or problems with him. There still can be problems with him and that child was just a lucky sperm so to say. Also things change over time so the problem may not have been there when he had that child.

You can order the book online...there are several sites that offer it.
