Here's a question that I hope somebody can help me out with. I did injections a couple of cycles ago and had 18 mature follicles. They cancelled the cycle and told me NOT to take the HCG shot. Then they told me we had to skip a cycle so that all the follicles that didn't get released would go away. During this time, he put me on the b/c pill because I have PCOS and he was worried that the follicles that did not get released would turn into cysts. I had an IUI last Monday and test this coming up Monday. If this is a BFN, will I have to skip another cycle? I took the HCG shot this time, so shouldn't that have released all the follicles mature or not? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif If so, then there would be nothing to "clean out", right?
Please give the answer that I want. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi, Beth.
I completed a complete iui cycle and of gonal-f in may and was hyperstimulated. I had 9 follies and was left with ovaries that were double the size of my uterus. Instead of being put on b/c pills, I was told to drink a gallon of gatorade a day until the cycsts went away. I was told that the hcg shot would make some of the follies burst, but I would be left with cysts and that they can go away on there own. Taking b/c pills makes the cysts go away faster. Sometimes you are able to start a new cycle once you have completed your pack of pills and other times, doctors will wait to make sure your ovaries have settled down.

Hi Curry. Thanks for the response. I only had two mature follies this time and there were only one or two in each ovary that were really small. Do you think I'll be able to start this very next cyle right after a BFN or is it customary to always skip at least one cycle between IUIs?
Thanks!
Beth

Beth,
I think you should be able to start a new cycle as soon as possible. I don't think you'll have to skip one because it sounds as if you produced a small amount of follies. The only reason for skipping a cycle is if there are cysts that are left from a previous cycle. Take Care, Curry

Hi Beth, I also think that it won't be a problem this time because you only had two mature follies. My first IUI I also had two mature follies and a bunch of small ones and I was able to go straight to the second cycle when that one failed. I overstimulated on this last one though. Just got a BFN and news from my RE that I probably have cysts and will have to sit out the cycle.
Good luck!!

Amy - Thanks! That's what I was hoping to hear. I had to sit out last cycle and I started craving the pain of the shots. I couldn't wait to get started again.
I did do things during the off-cycle that I am too scared to do during an on-cycle. Take advantage of your time off. I've gained so much weight since I started ttc. So during that off-month I dieted a little and lost 4 pounds. (4 of the 20 I gained, not much but a start). I also took my neice to an amusement park and rode some roller coasters. I'd never diet or ride roller coasters during an on-cycle just because we're spending so much money that I want to be as careful as possible. My advice is to plan some things that you wouldn't do on an on-cycle. It'll help it go by a little quicker.
Good luck and thanks for the help!

Thanks, Beth, that's great advice. I, too, have gained weight while ttc. It's awful, isn't it? I can't really understand it. Which drugs have made you gain weight?
DH and I are going to go on vacation next week, and we normally wouldn't be able to do that if this were an iui cycle, because I'd have to stay close to the lab for monitoring during that time. So that's a bonus of taking a month off.
Hope all goes well for you this cycle!

Thanks Amy. I am hoping for a BFP this time or for this next upcoming one (as long as I don't have to skip a cycle). My wonderful DH has planned a week in Cape Hatteras in September and we're going to Vegas in October. Both during important cycle times. So we either have to get a BFP this time or next or else skip two cycles.
I hope you have a great time on a much deserved vacation. The bd can be more spontaneous than scheduled!
Have fun!

Hi everyone, Curry here. You can include me in the group that needs to lose added pounds from ttc. I was on clomid for 8 months, and then tried pergonal, but had an allergic reaction.(couldn't believe that all that medication was wasted, then finally onto gonal-f. I felt great on that stuff but boy did I get fat!!! It's not fair. Who feels very sexy 20lbs. heavier that normal? Not me, not in the slightest. I'm hoping that the gym pays off. Curry

Beth, sounds like your DH is really a darling--planning two vacations for you!! Have fun!
Hi Curry, what is it with gonal-f and weight gain??!! I can't understand how I gained close to 10 pounds in two months of that stuff. Up until I met that nasty drug, my weight had never really fluctuated more than a pound or two. I really don't know if I ate more on the drugs or whether it changed my metabolism or whether it was just bloating (in my dreams) or what happened. Any theories anybody?

YEAH! Thank you for letting me know it is NOT my imagination that I have gained weight. I am afraid to eat much less, I am not a big eater to beign with. I have cut back on my exercise. I am watching my carbs, but craving sweets like crazy! Thanks again http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
