Hi all, I just noticed today my baby (8 mos) has a swollen purple-brown area where his next tooth seems to be trying to poke through.
Is it normal to sometimes get this? Or is this something the doc should check?
He's had 5 teeth come through so far and I haven't noticed this bruise-like thing before with them. We suspect this is the next tooth (it's the mirror of the 5th).
I left a message for his doc but no-one's answered yet (24 hrs - but 24 hrs is up against TG and we know what that could mean). Also trying to call my pediatrician uncle and aunt, but it's busy there.

LOL, literally just as I posted, our doc called - he said it's pretty normal sometimes and shouldn't be particularly worrisome. Just may need some more pain relief.

Oh good, I'm glad to see that your doctor got back to you promptly! I was going to say, that I've read sometimes a little pocket of blood can form where the tooth is going to come in, so that could be what it is. I guess it's just a bruise, which is bleeding under the skin. So don't be too suprised if when the tooth does make it's appearance, he bleeds a little from the mouth. It's normal!
