Sponsor 1sunny1 11-26-2008, 10:46 AM Only that it is trace amounts and does not pose a threat.
Sunny Namibia 11-26-2008, 10:58 AM There were also traces of melamine found in our baby formulas here they say they are not harmful but can we really be sure?? The formula I use is luckily not afftected or so they claim. (I live in Namibia in Africa on the border of South Africa)
kittyroo 11-26-2008, 11:29 AM They are not saying which brand it was.
G8r4evr 11-26-2008, 02:01 PM Well thats scary. At first, it is always, "not enough to pose a threat", but all too often it seems, we find out later that it was enough to cause concern.
I wish the articles provided more details. They said Enfamil AR with Iron tested positive...well, my DD is on Enfamil AR with Iron....does that mean her brand is contaminated too? Nestle Good Start tested positive and in house testing shows that Similac tested positive. So whats left? I am ready to go by a new brand, but I dont know what else to buy. cmarie313 11-26-2008, 05:05 PM the news last night said it was Enfamil Lipil with Iron (powder) and one of the Nestle Goodstarts (on the news it looked like it was the ready to feed but not sure?).
I haven't heard anything about Similac...where did you hear about that? cmarie G8r4evr 11-26-2008, 05:33 PM the news last night said it was Enfamil Lipil with Iron (powder) and one of the Nestle Goodstarts (on the news it looked like it was the ready to feed but not sure?).
I haven't heard anything about Similac...where did you hear about that? cmarie I read on several sites that FDA testing did not turn up anything in Similac, but in house testing by Similac did turn up trace amounts in Similac formula. Im trying to decide if Enfamil AR tested positive....I guess we could switch to the ready to feed, but I just read those have high BPA content. Gioparis 11-27-2008, 01:23 PM So what are we supposed to use? My 9 month old has been on Enfamil Lipil but i want to stop giving to her, i dont care how small the traces are, so i went to bought Similac Advance, she drank it fine but now im reading Similac tested Positive also?!!! soooo what do we do?!!!!!!!!!!!
dina08 11-27-2008, 03:27 PM My daughter is almost 11 months and we decided to start making the switch to whole milk.
G8r4evr 11-27-2008, 05:44 PM So what are we supposed to use? My 9 month old has been on Enfamil Lipil but i want to stop giving to her, i dont care how small the traces are, so i went to bought Similac Advance, she drank it fine but now im reading Similac tested Positive also?!!! soooo what do we do?!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know what to do either?? My DD is on Enfamil AR and I have no problem switching to Good Start or Similac, but they both tested postive as well!! Enfamils website now says that the reports were false and the FDA did not find Melamine in their formula. For some reason, that screams cover up to me and I have a hard time believing it. AlexaIn2006 11-30-2008, 10:24 PM There are NO SAFE levels for melamine in the body. It is reckless of these doctors to tell people that it is "perfectly fine" and that they should keep giving their children the formula anyways. Too many people hang on every word a doctor say. So if you give your child a trace of melamine several times a day, day after day, what do you think the long term effect is going to be? This is completely dangerous and harmed and killed several Chinese babies and the same thing with pets. Find an alternative.
G8r4evr 12-01-2008, 05:35 PM I'm still very concerned by this. The FDA basically took a guess when determining the threshold. I want to switch my daughter's formula (she is on Enfamil AR), but have no clue what to switch to? Good Start is contaminated and according to in-house testing, so is Similac. What I dont understand is how the FDA didnt find anything in Similac, but Similac's own testing did??!! I wish someone would comment on that.
I also wish the FDA would clarify if by naming Enfamil AR...all of the Enfamil AR products are contaminated (ie...the AR, Next Step, etc) marisuela 12-08-2008, 10:30 PM this is probably a stupid question, but what exactly does "in house testing" mean??? i'm not in a place to get on the internet or watch the news very often, so this is all news to me..... i've been wanting to quit breast feeding, but now i'm having second thoughts about it! SCARY!!!!
also, what the he** is melamine doing in infant formula??? what does it mean that it's okay to have in "small" amounts??? how the heck do they know what it's going to do to our babies over time? ARGH!!!!! |
