Hey I am in Florida and my Medicaid funding is going to run out when I turn 21 on March 3rd, 2009. I am on a ventilator and get 100s of dollars worth the supplies through Medicaid as well as 24/7 nursing through Medicaid. I live at home with my family and would like to keep it that way. Does anyone here know of a way to extend my funding past the age of 21?

Hey Richard,
I would think you would qualify for disability which should cover alot, if not all of your cost.

I would check into as soon as possible. When will you be 21? And if you don't mind me asking, what type MD do you have? I have a 6 year old son with a type of limb girdle.
Hope you have a great day

Richard, are you registered yet with an MD association? I'm not sure what all they help with financialy yet as I'm new to this, but I do know, they have resource information, maybe they can help? Best of luck!

Richard,
Look into the Medicaid Tech Waiver. I am on that in Virginia. There usually is a waiting list. If you haven't applied for disability you should because after 24 months, you are eligible for medicare. There is definitely help for you but believe me no one is going to tell you about it. Its a shame we have to have hunt for help! Also trying contacting your local Social Services office. Good luck!!!
