I have pain in my ears when hearing loud noises. I'm not talking about concert level noise. When a loud noise is making me cover my ears with my hands, everyone else in the room doesn't seem to be bothered. Does this indicate a possible serious current or future problem? Should I have my ears checked by an ENT specialist, or by a place that sells hearing aids? Or is this nothing to be worried about? Oh, I should tell you that I do not suffer from ringing in my ears, just this problem with noises. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hello there,

What you're describing sounds like hyperacusis and doesn't constitute a serious problem.

However, if you're concerned, I would see an ENT for a consultation and ear exam. Perhaps he/she can explain why you are experiencing this.
