Hello to coffee / caffeine addicts! :dizzy:
Has anyone had to stop caffeine intake due to OCD? A simple yes or no will do but feel free to explain in response. Thanks so much!

Why would having OCD make you need to stop consuming caffeine? Sorry but I don't really understand the question.

Thanks for responding. Sorry if the question was confusing. For me, I'm anxious most of the day and caffeine increases my anxiety. I can handle coffee in the morning but around lunchtime I crave some kind of kick and caffeine is the first thing I think of. I usually don't get a lunch break so maybe I need to try to get away and relax for a few minutes and see if that helps.

Yeah, I drink a lot of caffeine at work and it makes me kind of anxious too. I wouldn't take too much caffeine on an empty stomach...I would definately try to eat something at lunch. I know with me, it can make me really jittery and shakey if I drink coffee and haven't eaten in a while. That being said, I haven't really noticed that consuming caffeine has affected my OCD.

not confusing at all. i had to give up caffeine (and alcohol) it made me way too anxious to the point where i've had near panic attacks here and there. definitely increased my obsessive thoughts. i've battled ocd, depression and anxiety since I was a late teen. i've been on and off meds and have a had a few major episodes. my last one was last year around this time. I had been off meds for 5 years. however i was drinking a lot and not taking care of myself as well as I should have. so now i've given up caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes. if you are looking for coffee alternatives there's a few brands that make carob coffee. for coca cola alternatives you can grab some sarsparilla root drinks. these both can be found at stores like earthfare, whole foods, wild oats, etc.
