Hi everyone. I am wanting to get the Mirena IUC but I have never had children before. Will my doctor let me have it or will he prohibit me from getting it?

I have been considering getting an IUC and have never given birth. When I talked to my gyno, she explained why it's generally recommended for women who have had children - it's easier to insert (and therefore less painful) and it's less likely to come out. In someone like you or me, your cervix is not as responsive to that stretch and may push it out. The chances of that happening are low, but higher than if you had given birth before. Unless he or she has some good reason not to give it to you, there really shouldn't be a problem with getting an IUC. I am a college student and the gynos here say they do TONS of IUC insertions each semester, and I guarentee you that most of these girls are not mothers.

Good luck!

Ah ok. Thank you for your post Leelee28. I appreciate it. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to reply to my thread before Wednesday or not which is my appointment to discuss the IUC with my gynecologist. Anyway, thanks again and I seriously hope my gynecologist will let me have the IUC because I really don't want children for the next 5 years and would prefer a hassle free method of birth control that I don't have to mess with every day, every time I have sex, every month, every three months, or whatever.

Well, my doctor agreed to give me the Mirena IUC. I have an appointment for next Tuesday to get it. :D

Thanks Leelee. Unfortunately, I am extremely nervous about getting it. My sister said getting hers inserted hurt worse than child birth and she has had nothing but problems with hers since insertion. So yeah, I'm pretty scared.

You mean IUD? There is no such thing as an IUC.

IUC = Intrauterine Contraceptive (or contraception).

SpicyGirl82, it may hurt for a bit, but I doubt it will hurt as much as childbirth!
