My pm is talking about taking me off the morphine and putting me on suboxone. He also mentioned methadone. How does this work. Do you take methadone and suboxone at the same time, is there pain killing properties in the suboxone. I'm totaly in the dark. I am on avinza and xodol and my back causes me such pain as I lie in my bed a cry. Any Ideas?

Suboxone has little if any pain relief. It is used to help wean off of heavy narcotic use. Methadone has good pain relief properties and is often used as a long acting pain med. Methadone is famous for helping heroin addicts break free of heroin since it does stay in system for a long time.

Suboxone is used to help people come off of narcotics. I have heard of it occasionally being prescribed for pain but if your in that much pain that you lay in bed and cry all day, I am not sure what this is going to do for you.. I have heard from some people it does not help very well for high pain levels and its not generally used for pain but rather for addicition.

Methadone is a very strong good pain medication and is used to treat back pain Quite frequently. Did your Dr mention addiction and that is possibly why you are being switched to sub? Why are you coming off of Methadone? Is it not working anymore?

there are other narcotics to try if methadone isn't working for you. Has your Dr tried any other medications? have you discussed the pain pump, or anything else? maybe you need another opinion from a Pain Management Dr as to why he is putting you on Sub for pain. Or ask him why he is trying this for your pain if your not sure.
