Hey guys. I have read a few posts about follicles and such... Well, the past two times I have had an internal ultrasound, the RE found 2-3 mature follies each time. I have read on here where sometimes they have found as many as 18! Is 2-3 typically a low number? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I think the number depends on how much medication you are taking and for how long... It probably also depends on how your body reacts to the meds.

I am doing IUI cycles with 1 Clomid pill on days 3-7, then 1 vial of Follistim on Day 9. I have 2-3 mature follicles from that and that seems to be good for IUI. I think you need lots more for IVF since they do an egg retrieval.

CapGirl is right. You don't want more than 2-3 follicles for an IUI because of the increased risk of multiples. But for IVF, they stimulate you much more aggressively, and then transfer typically 2-3 embryos of the ones that develop. For IVF, it's better to have lots of eggs so they can pick and choose the embryos that are developing the best. Your number sounds good for IUI.
