Has anyone had a lap done to remove an ovarian cyst? I am scheduled for one next week. We have been TTC for about 2yrs, 1 yr with medical assistance. I am 32, DH is 31. I have had numersous blood tests/ulatrasounds, etc. (LH/FSH levels consistent with PCOS but no other symptoms), done 4 rounds of clomid 50mg with GYN(strong ovulations on all but still not pg), HSG (clear), CCCT + IUI with RE (FSH level fine), 1 failed cycle of 1.5 amp Gonal-F/Cetrotide/Profasi + IUI (responded too quickly, took Cetrotide and stopped responding for a while - a very uncontrolled COH cycle if you ask me - numbers were all over the place). DHs SA has been normal but the washed count has been poor at least 1 day of each of the IUI cycles. I have also been taking BCP between cycles with the RE and now for over a month waiting for the lap so now instead of getting disappointed at the end of each month I am disappointed each day I have to swallow that horrible little pill! After all that - it turns out that the only thing I have been able to grow well is a 5cm complex cyst. I have been very nervous about the lap as it will be my first experience with any sort of surgery but I think I am most upset about feeling like we are getting nowhere ttc. When we first started ttc I had at least 3 doctors tell me that I should be pg in a few months of clomid - no problem (obviously I now know that was unfounded advice) and I was the person who thought each month it was going to happen. Now having ended up at the wrong end of the statistics for quite some time with ttc I am definitely less optomistic. I would appreciate any advice you ladies mught have on the lap and would love to hear from anyone whose situation improved following their lap- Thanks!!

Hi and welcome!
I had a LAP in May to check for endometriosis and while they were looking inside they discovered that I had a cyst on one ovary. THey said it was very simple to remove while they were already inside. I had soreness the day of and after the LAP but I thought it was a relatively simple procedure for me. It was discovered while I was in surgery that I did have undiagnosed endo. We were hoping to have conceived on our own after the LAP but we went for our 1st IUI since the LAP (4th total) today. We too have been ttc for 2 yrs - 1 with a Dr. I hope this info helps! Welcome again!

I hope you get the answer you want soon.

I had a lap in late March to check for endometriosis and a cyst. As it turns out, my cyst had shrunk away on its own so they did not have to remove it. I have done one IUI w/ follistim and will tell you that it was delayed for a month because I had a cyst and am now in the month after - another month off because I had a couple of cysts left over from the follistim. So, as you can see, I get them all the time and it has been explained to me that they are very common. And as for 5cm........that is not all that huge......you should be fine. Let us know how you are doing!
