Has anyone out there experienced a false bfp? I took hpt this am and got bfp. I wasn't at all thinking I was prego because I have only had regular pms symptoms! I would be thrilled if it is actually bfp!!!! I am going to, of course, call my dr today and ask for blood test. The two lines were there immediately. I am hopeful, but with feet on the ground. My symptoms have been regular sweet cravings at what I thought was regular pms time and, as usual, very bloated!!! Any thoughts.......
thanks

It's my understanding that if you follow the directions on the hpt precisely, false positives are very rare. One thing that can cause them is testing too soon after having an hcg trigger shot. But I believe that shot clears your system after about 10 days. Good luck, and I hope you have some very happy confirmation from your doctor! Also, my experience and the experiences of my friends are that most women have no signs of pregnancy in the very beginning. I was expecting the earth to move when I finally got pregnant, but I had virtually no symptoms for almost a month. Keep us posted!

Very seldom are BFP false. The cases in which it is is normally due to infertility drugs that contain HCG.
Second PMS signs and pregnancy signs are often the same. That is why many people that have PMS dont think of pregnancy when they have the signs. Also you have to consider that some people never have any signs of pregnancy.

thanks for your replys you guys. It helps so much with all the knowledge around here. Blastoff--you mentioned infertility drugs can affect the result. Well, I did my first round of clomid in august, which would be the month we conceived, if we are indeed prego. I wonder if that would affect it?
thanks a bunch!!

Karen,
Clomid doesn't affect hpt results. HPTs test for the hormone hcg (human chorionic gonadatropin) which is what the trigger shot is that many women get after taking Clomid. If you didn't have an hcg shot, then the chances of that test showing a false positive are very slim. Let us know!
