I just recieved my cervic culture back today. It stated I have a Citrobacter freundii infection in my cervic. Please help, my specialist has never heard of this before and I am tring to research the subject with no results.

Hi Wendy, I am a medical transcriptionist, so I have just about every medical word book at my disposal. I looked this up in the medical encyclopedia and it says

"Citrobacter - a genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae, made up of motile organisms that are able tuse citrate as a sole carbon source. The organisms occur in water, food, feces, and urine. They have been associated with diarrhea and secondary infections in debilitated persons, occasionally causing severe primary septicemia."

When I further look up Citrobacter freundii this is what I found "Citrobacter freundii, the most commonly isolated species. It does not produce indole or ferment adonitol and is not inhibited by potassium cyanide; found in soil, water, sewage, and food, in clinical specimens from normal persons, and as an opportunistic pathogen."
