View Full Version : Something most people aren't aware of....

As I read posts from people who have been TTC sooooo hard for so long with no results, my hearts breaks. There is something I wanted to share with all of you that my dh and I are considering in the event that ttc doesn't work.

Adoption.......now STOP before you groan and click this message away. Most people hear the word "adoption" and cringe thinking of the $$ and time involved. WHAT IF IT WERE FREE?

I'm not sure about the United States and I do have a friend looking into policies, but here in Canada there is another option. Especially for couples who cannot conceive, Children & Family Services, aka Children's Aid, will HELP you to adopt a baby and THEY will cover the costs of the adoption. These babies are ones born to parents who are deemed unfit to raise them. They often have numerous babies farmed out in foster homes
and are a ward of the "state". The reason Children's services are willing to help couples adopt these wee ones is because if they can find them a great, loving home, it ends up saving them big $$ in the long run.
All that is usually required is a short home study (where they just ask you a lot of questions to make sure you have loving capable arms waiting) and then away you go. They don't waste any time getting things through court for you. We've had friends who have done this and are now raising their babies they dreamed of. The only drawback? You wouldn't go through pregnancy. So you have to decide for yourself.
I hope and pray this gives some of you hope where you might not otherwise have it.

Thank you for this post. Adoption is a wonderful option. I have already had a homestudy completed a few years ago and I can tell everyone it's really not that bad. I was planning to adopt an older child as a single parent, but then fate stepped in the way and I met my husband. So....I haven't adopted yet because now he also has to be homestudied. I don't even know if I'm infertile or not but I read these boards occasionally because I just have a feeling I am, but regardless I will be adopting even if we decide to have a biological one as well.
