I am scheduled for Lower Eyelid Surgery on Monday Dec 8th and have a trip booked to Mexico leaving Dec 30th.What I understood is that healing took about 2 weeks but depended on the person. Now I am worried as I only have 22 days till I am in the sun and it sounds like I will have bruised, swollen eyes still then.I know I will be able to wear sun glasses and will wear sunscreen but am I going to look like a freak when I don't wear sun glasses?

cheeto, you don't say how old you are and if you are having transcutaneous or transconjunctival. These things play a big role in recovery. My own experience at age 55 with transcutaneous is that 4 weeks min to look ok with some makeup but you'll still have swelling and maybe some bruising. I did a vacation one month after upper and lower and still looked like I had been in a fight; lower lids were the issue but I wore sunglasses during the day and managed with makeup to look ok at night. I was with my husband who doesn't care what I look like really (or so he says). I think it depends on what you're planning socially.

I am 51 years old and only have the information from my Dr. that I am having a Bilateral Lower Lid Blepharoplasties possible Lateral Tasal Strip.I can eat and drink anything I want before surgery so I am not being put under.I check in at 2:15PM and can be picked up at 3:30PM so it is a short procedure. This is being done by a Oculoplastics Surgeon, Dr Dolman at Vancouver General Hospital.

I used arnica tablets for one week before surgery and two weeks after plus arnica cream afterwards. It's still up for debate if this stuff really works. some folks swear by it. But at least it can't hurt.

Cheeto,
How did it go? I am going in for lower eyes in Feb. Was wondering how long you looked like you were in a fight?
