View Full Version : calling on IVFers--lupron question

Hi Ladies,
I just got my protocol for my first IVF which will be next month. My RE is putting me on lupron starting on day 21 this month as part of my prep cycle, to be followed by IVF next cycle.
Here is my question: Is it possible to get pg this cycle when I will be on lupron (starting a week after ovulation)? I have heard it is "possible," but I fear that starting lupron during the 2ww will hurt any developing embryo (if I'm lucky enough to have one).
I have gotten pg naturally this spring and then sadly I had a m/c. I'm doing IVF because I'm 40 and running out of time, but I'm hoping so much that I can get pg naturally during this prep cycle. (We will be going into debt to do the IVF). I just want to know if the lupron makes it unrealistic to hope for a bfp this cycle.
Thanks so much for any info any of you have about this or about lupron side effects etc.
I really appreciate your support.

Amy,

Hello there. I am also doing the same thing as you. today will be day 5 on Lupron. I am also taking Provera as I had a size 19 follie that I did not ovulate by day 21. Anyway, my doctor said DO NOT get pregnant this cycle because it will be too early to detect the pregnany when the Lupron will be started and the Lupron has negative effects on a developing Embryo.

Here's my experience:

It was four years ago, my dh and I were ready to start IVF again because we had one daughter through IVF already and six frozen embies. We set the schedule and started lupron. 10 Days after lupron I was supposed to start my cycle and did not. You guessed it, I was pg. So it does happen!

Best Wishes.

It's me again - I just read Shelby's post. Maybe I have the meds. mixed up. Isn't lupron the first med. you start so that the doctors can control your cycle?

Natalie,

You are correct as far as I know. Lupron is the first med they start you on to control your cycle. I am very curious now =) I wonder if my doctor just does not want me to get pg so she can get $$ from IVF?? (through Insurance anyway) I would be happy but sad in a way if I got pg... my co-pay for the meds for IVF is just under $1000.00

So, I am curious did you have that second baby or are you still pg?

OK... ME again! I am so stupid sometimes. I just re-read your post and saw that you said for years ago. I am sure you are not still pg!!

I just did IVF and I and preg, yipee!! But I was on Lupron and that med is used so you do not ovulate before the procedure. I do not think you can get preg while on it. I think eastern was preg just before starting lupron because you are not supposed to ovulate on Lupron. hope this helps
