Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone could help.
I have recently been diagnosed with herpes simplex 2. it was a massive shock to me as i have only had 2 sexual partners one of them being my boyfriend of 7 months. i believe i got it from him, as he was unfaithful early in the relationship.
anyway i have had huge problems with urinary tract infections and was wondering is these could be caused by herpes in any way. i have googled it but got many different answers, its all very confusing to me.
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks.

I'm not positive to the answer of this question, but I'm pretty sure that herpes does not cause urinary tract infections. However, herpes lesions can pop up pretty much anywhere in your body that the penis has been, so what you think is a urinary tract infection may be an open herpes lesion around your urinary opening. If that's the case, it would be very sensitive when the acidity of your urine passed over the sore. It may feel very similar to a urinary tract infection. Also, herpes lowers the immune system a bit, so the fact that you are having uti's may be because of your immune system just being compromised.

Better advice would be to seek the counsel of your health "professional"

Hi there,
I have recently been diagnosed with herpes simplex 2........anyway i have had huge problems with urinary tract infections and was wondering is these could be caused by herpes in any way.
Yes doctor/gyno is the best place to go for this. They can easily test your urine to see if an infection is going on. BUT herpes does often mimic or bring on UTI and yeast infections. That is what made me go to my gyno. Everything 'down below' has a delicate balance. If one thing (such as a herpes outbreak) upsets the apple cart, everything else can go haywire. One of the reasons that herpes spreads so much is that people are often misdiagnosed as having a urinary tract infection or yeast or jock itch etc. It goes away, they think they are fine but not and it spreads to someone else.
