Since I was young I have had very illregular periods.Infact I am 25 and have not had a period in 2 years and 4 months;Wow right.Well along with this I am slightly over weight. My breast stopped growing and I started to get hair on my upper lip. So for years going back in forth trying birth control etc. Doctors telling me I have some ciysts but nothing to worry about always handing me the pill but I wanted a explanaiton. The older I got the new symptons came. more hair forming here and there not bad but black hair slight on chin , middle of chest around nipple and a little on back.acne problems started and trouble mood swings.become more over weight. Now I spot here and there and every so often had a period. But now not for 2 full yrs. One doctor put me on provera which made me start worked great but as soon as you stoped nothing happened. So I kinda of gave up then I went to a new doctor whom is a women and she finally gave me some answeres. Said I have pcos.. poloy cystic ovarian syndrom. What it is is kinda like being dibetic.. insulin is stored in the body and for some reason portions of your insulin that goes through your ovarians stop there and build up. Which you know most diabetics eventually get fat and ormones change which cause hair growth etc.. So this is why i have har growth acne ect male hormones are taking over..The treatment is just that, diabetic medicine. So I am on the genric form of glucofague//I am on metformin. Started off with 500mg for 2 weeks twice a day then 1,000 mg d a day. So after this I read a article in news paper about this and it said everything my doctor had said women with the same sympton and was useing this drug.63 women became pregant in first year and had a lost alot of weight.Symtons decreased. I have been on this now for 9 1/2 mts i have noticed the acne has gone away no period has arrived but i do spot from now and then. No major weight loss.So I went to see a reproductive fertility doctor he confirmed it again. Said that my utrus lineing is really thick and is putting me on prometriam. This is simillar to provera.. I have not taken this yet but will. Want to know more about it. I am just wondering will I ever be normal or could there be more wrong with me. My husband just got tested and they said he is fine as far as sperm goes. I do not want to have to do invtro or clomide. Any ideas or related experinces..

Hi. I know your frustration. I have PCOS. Although I tend to have some kind of cycle but never regular. I found out 2 years ago that I have PCOS. There is no cure, but the metformin does help aleviate the symptoms. My husband and I have been trying to concieve for 7 years. I just went through my first cylce of follistim injections along with the HCG shot and IUI. I tried chlomid for 5 months and did not respond at all. Alot of woman do respond to it although it's not uncommon for a PCOSer not to respond to it. PCOS is a battle in itself. Hang in there and hope for the best thats all we can do.
I have gained a lot of weight too and seem to keep gaining. If you find a livable diet for PCOS please share :) Let me know how everything goes.
