Is it possible to have multiple bowel resections or are you stuck w/ colostomy forever if you have to get another surgery done?

People have had multiple bowel resections. (And I know of people who have had more than two.) It depends how much has been taken out and how much needs to be taken out.
Best wishes.

I think you mean can you have a reversible colostomy? If the tumour is high in the colon the colostomy can be reversed (usually after a year). If (like mine) it is in the rectum you will have a permanent colostomy. Good luck!

Great question. I've worried about this alot. I had 6 inches removed and I think I recall the surgeon saying he could take more but only once more.(pain meds seem to have left me with some confused memories) I had temp colostomy for 3 months and had it reversed 2 years ago. I'm having some issues again and am afraid to have it checked.

Specifics ? Why do you need a bowel resection ? A colostomy may not even be needed. And yes, at times a reversible(temporary) colosotomy is done.

A year ago I had a diverticular abcess in sigmoid colon. had to have emergency surgery, had sigmoid section taken out w/ temporary colostomy for six months. had reversal done, and now 8-9 months later having pain in left lower side again.don't know if it's adhesions or another bout of diverticulitis. was just wondering if another surgery was possibile w/ temporary colostomy or will colostomy have to to be permanent.
