Hi – I’m new here and wanted to get some advice. I’ve been ttc for a few years now, have had three IUI’s and am in the process of deciding whether or not to go forward with IVF (if so, I start the pill this weekend!). The only hesitation with IVF I have is that while I’m lucky enough to have medical insurance that covers infertility services, I don’t have prescription coverage. I can get prescription coverage in April. Meds are soooo expensive! I’ve paid for them for three cycles so far, I’m wondering if I wait until April (I’m 36 now and will be 37 by then) or does anyone know of any meds donations/lower priced/swap/trade, etc... I’ve been using Village Pharmacy and they are actually the same price as Canadian drugs, which is still pretty expensive.

Bottom line is I would really like to go ahead, I feel like time is slipping away from me! I guess I want to see if there is any way I can offset any of the costs. My clinic used to take donations and give them to patients without prescription insurance and my doctor suggested this avenue because they don’t do that anymore! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi Nickelly,
Your doctor should be able to tell you what the exact cost is going to be (or give you a approx. idea).

If you can afford it, do it! If you can't then wait! I know... easier said than done http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well if you just want to go for it no matter what (like I probably would) Keep in mind that 1. if it works, it was worth the money 2. if it doesn't work, you are now closer to finding out what's next and when April comes you will be ready for the next step (whether it's another IVF or soemthing else) and you will have meds covered.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but those are my thoughts for ya http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for the advice - I have decided to go ahead with it. I just had to torture myself with making the decision first!

I was able to find lower priced meds on garagesale.com and ivfmeds.com has lower prices than any canadian website I've seen so far.
