Hi everybody...<removed> but I've just come from reading an article about how Vitamin D, even in the standard 800/day dosage level is detrimental rather than helpful to our bodies.
The article talks about a bacteria and how Vitamin D plays a role in its existence in our bodies.

There are many reputable sites that praise the value of vitamin D. 1,000 IUs per day is recommended more than the FDA recommendation of only 400 IU per day.

I agree with Tx. I take 2000 to 40000 IU a day. I think the important thing is to make sure you are using the right kind of D - Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), not Vitamin D 2, which can cause toxicity. Vitamin D is actually very important and many people do not get enough. I base my dosage on how much noon time sun I am exposed to each day, at least 20 minutes.

Jen is absolutely right. Getting vitamin D in D3 form is much more preferable. Depending on where you are, you may not get a whole lot of sunlight this time of year. It is vital to supplement, and I have not found anywhere stating any toxic level of vitamin D until you get up into the 50,000 or so IU daily.
