For the last few months, whenever I go to the local mountains ( 5000 feet elevation) I begin to experience what I can only describe as sporatic waves or flushes of dizziness, loss of equilibrium and disorientation. They hit they subside. It hits without warning and feels as if I have been hit by a strong gust of wind only it's in my head. It is the most bizare sensation- It last for about 3 - 4 days thn disappears only to return once I go back to the mountains. I have been to an ENT but no luck- ANYONE???

Sounds like you are experiencing a condition caused by a change in atmospheric pressure, similar to what one has when they fly. I would talk to your ear, nose and throat doctor about it and ask for their opinion on prevention when you hike. Good luck, and God bless.

Hello, This is interesting. I just moved to a high altitude location to take a new job and have started experiencing dizziness. It occurs whenever I move my head quickly and in the morning when I get out of bed. Did you ever find a solution to your problem?
THANKS!!!!!

I had that when I first moved to the mountains...The elevation was different than what I was used to, and I would get the dizziness, vertigo, nausea, etc. off and on....Most times it was worse in the morning, getting out of bed....
After living here a few months, it went away pretty much...Sometimes I experience it, but I also have sinus and allergy problems too, so not always sure what causes it....
But after I got adjusted to the altitude, it was much better...I also have had labrynthitis in the past, so have a compromised inner ear system anyway I think, and little things can set it off in me, that wouldn't in others who never had inner ear problems..

HI everyone, I think you guys might be experincing high altitude sickness. 20-30% of people experience this with those symptoms. Do any of you experience it while you are flying. What elevation are you at?

I have never noticed this when I fly and my job has required me to fly frequently (internationally) over the last several years.
In my case, I moved from 0 altitude (I live on the beach in the USVI) to about 2,500 ft. altitude. I will only live here for a few years and then I will move home so the problem will probably go away.
I have noticed that within the last two months the problem has not been as bad.
It is good to know this will get better.
THANKS!!!!!!!
