Hi,

I have just been looking over lots of information on Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and am starting to wonder whether the symtoms I am experiencing are anything to do with this, eg. clicking in the ear when I swallow. Can anyone tell me what I would be experiencing if I had this condition? Are there any cures?

Thanks again,
Jon.

Read back on Lynn, Tzipk and Wendy's dialogue. It seems we might have this.

Hi again,

After reading through many of the messages you all wrote on this board I basically convinced myself that my problem has been Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I decided I would go and tell the doctor what I thought and on doing so he agreed that there was a problem with fluid behind my ear drums! It feels really good that after 4 months of misery I am beginning to make progress with sorting this out and that I finally know what has been causing me these problems. I'd like to thank you all for helping me with this!

Jon.

Jon,

Glad you're finally getting to the root of your problem... I just wanted to know what method of treatment you're using, because I have almost exactly the same symptoms you described(clicking in my left ear when I swallow) and have been to several doctors with no success. As you know, this is a tough condition to live with and it's really hard to get anyone(doctors included) to understand what you're going through. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jason,

As yet I haven't had any treatment as i am still in the process of getting the condition properly diagnosed (I am arranging an appointment with the ENT specialist to get a tympanogram). I am, however, having acupuncture, as I know of someone who had the same condition and apparently accupuncture sorted it out, but I have only had three treatments so far and as yet my ears are still the same. Can I just ask, do you go swimming at all? I have noticed some really strange noises when I swim underwater, likes bits of glass rolling around in my head, and also a crackling sound, like a bonfire.

Anyway, I'll let you know what happens with the ENT doctor, I expect I will be put on antibiotics, which I have heard don't work for a lot of people, I just hope the acupuncture does!

Jon,
Hey... thanks for writing back. To answer your question, no, I actually haven't been swimming in ages, and not since I've had this problem(about 1 year.) I basically notice a loud pop every time I swallow, sometimes it's a click or a crackling. The amount of sleep I get sometimes affects it. I'm thinking about getting tubes put in. There were some people on this site who had them, but I'm not sure if their messages are still posted since they redesigned the site. See if you can find any postings by Wendy, and read them all from the last six months or so. She had tubes put in and they seem to have worked. I'm consulting w/an ENT about that soon. Anyway, good luck man, and keep me posted on ANY progress.

Thanks,
Jason

I have had the same symptoms for 6 years.

I constant cracking like someone walking on gravel, independently in both ears. So loud other people can here it when close in a quiet room.

My girlfriend goes nuts when watching a film and she has her head on my shoulder.

Anyway I have tried homeopathy, acupuncture, herbs and antibiotics. none have made any difference. I tried the acupuncture for a year every weekly.

It has been miss diagnosed as Palatal Myaclonis and I have had the Botox injections to the back of my throat, this is supposed to stop the muscle twitch they think is causing the noise, needless to say it had no effect at all.

My worry is that it is getting worse, very slowly, but still getting worse.

I am now putting together arguments for my ent consultant and this board has giving me hope at last that I have identified the problem.

Are L'itis and ETD sometimes confused? How do you know if you have ETD?

Do you think you have to have severe pressure in your ears for it to be ETD??? I also think I may have ETD. I don't know. Trying to find out as much as poss. Is ETD linked to colds? My dizziness has got much worse after a recent cold...

Help! I am going crazy. I also have a problem with the popping in both ears and the right one always has a full feeling in it like it has water or something. I am very senstive to sounds. My big problem is I can't hear the volume of my own voice. I can hear other people and hear myself but not the pitch. People are always asking me why am I talking so loud or yelling. It is so embrassing. I went to the EMT and he said my ears were okay and I had great hearing but I was just crazy. Do you have this problem also?

Is there any way to get rid of the ear popping permanently? Please help, it's affecting my quality of life.
