I'm very excited I got my uppers today. I have to have the lower partial redone because it was alot of time between when I got my teeth pulled and got them so everything has shrunk. I'm 28 and couldn't be happier. I know it's young but why suffer with pain and ugliness my whole life. The only thing I see wrong is that they make me want to gag! They fit snug, don't need paste or anything, but when I put them in I want to gag. It makes me not want to wear them. Has this happened to anyone and how long did it take to get used to. I know I just got them but I hate that feeling! Thanks for the help.

Merry Christmas to all,
Megan

What you are experiencing is pretty normal for first time denture wearers. The whole event of getting dentures is both an emotional and a physical change. Both are challenging. The gagging is normal because your mouth needs to get used to sharing space with all of that plastic, it may also be extending too far so don't be shy about going back to the dentist for adjustments. Also using a small piece of hard candy to help take your mind off the new dentures will help.

Good luck and feel free to ask anything- age does not matter.

Thanks for the reply! I am going to go to the Dentist on Monday and ask him if he can shave it back a little bit so it's not SO bad. I'm excited about being able to smile again!

How exciting for you. I never had the gagging problem, maybe the palate is too far back. I bet they look nice. They do take getting use to, but sounds like your doing well so far. The dentist will know what is causing the gagging.

Hey, I am 33 and getting so much grief from my dentist who keeps telling me I need to get a root canal(s). I have had problems all my life with "soft" teeth, and Celiacs Disease which effects enamels. He keeps telling me I am too young and save my teeth or I will regret it. Uhhh I regret all the pain and money, sot it to return a year later. and much money that I cannot afford. Is there something bad that happens if you have you get dentures at a young age. I have heard some people say your checks wll have a sick in look to them over time? Help!

[Please do not use cuss/slang words. Saying "getting so much grief" or something similar is much better. Thanks - Well-come Moderator.]
