yes, cosmetic does work, but it takes a long time though (2-3 months). you might want to visit a doc if your acne condition is severe.
for cosmetics, you could try products with Salicylic acid or AHA.

Use baking soda with water scrub on face and rinse 2x a day. Use Merle Norman makeup. I have scars from picking at them 20 yrs ago and it covers it.
