I have super oily skin, it is just disgusting. I also have acne scars and deep, large pores. I just got Bare Minerals for Christmas, I was hoping it would be better than liquid foundation, but so far I am not impressed. If anything it makes my skin look more oily and it seems my skin looks more uneven than when I was using liquid. Maybe I am not putting on enough or I am not applying it right. I use Clean and Clear oil blotters, but I literally have to use 3 to blot up all the oil each time. I would really like to not have to spend 5 bucks like every two weeks on these things. What products or methods could I use to combat the oil. Thanks!!

Hey, bare mineral gave me similar problem! It actually doesn't give me shine, but it makes my pore looks so large it is scary. I don't know what to do, so I just throw it in my drawer after using it only 3 times...

With oil shine, you should use mattifying lotion...

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I thought Bare Minerals was supposed to smooth out the skin. Quite frankly my skin looks better with heavy foundation. I mainly wanted to try Bare Minerals because I thought it would help with my oily skin. Since it doesn't I may just go back to liquid.

Where can I get mattifying lotion? What is a good brand?

Also, I find that if I wash my face at night, my skin gets worse...weird!

For me with oily skin, occasional breakouts and fine lines...in my mid-30's!! I tried the mineral powder and it makes me look older. So I will stick with liquid foundation...Infalible by L'oreal is great!

I have tried that and it made me soooo much oilier. I was using Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. Literally this is the only foundation that helps in the slightest to make my skin not as oily.

I used to have super oily skin too! I'd also use the Clean & Clear oil absorbing sheets, and honestly, I think those are your best option. I've tried other products and they just didn't work as well. I went through mine really fast too, but it was better for me to just buy them! Many products cost more anyway. You also might want to try out Dr. Feel Good by Benefit cosmetics. It's a balm you can put on before your makeup or after. I have it and use it mid-day to keep my skin matte. It helps dry up oil on my face and keeps it matte for longer. It also lasts a long time, so you don't have to buy it too often. I only use a little bit at a time. Luckily my skin is not as oily now and only gets shiny around the middle of the day. My skin become regular after I went on birth control pills. My acne also got a lot better. Unfortunately the weather has been crazy here, so my skin is acting up a bit now!

Yeah, I am going to go back on my bc pills and I am hoping my skin will get better then. I will try that, where do you get it? I also saw a lot about Burt' Bees Tomato Toner. I usually buy the off brand of the oil blotting sheets. They are cheaper and they work exactly the same.

I've been a Bare Escentual fan for at least 10 years now. I love it and will not use anything else but there are tricks for applying it so you get that matt finish.

Apply it with the kabuki brush by buffing, buffing, buffing in circles onto your face. Use a small dab of it on a smaller brush or q-tip to cover up pimples beforehand. I then apply my blush, then a must...is the mineral veil. Sweep it onto your face, all over, then apply again over the large pores. You'll be amazed at how they disappear.

I then apply whatever eye makeup I'm using (mineral veil on lids and lashes helps to make these items last longer), then I take a make up sponge and quickly go over my face. Voila...perfect looking skin.

Don't give up on it...it really does work, you just have to play with it a bit.

Prior to using Accutane, I had very oily skin and found that one week the Bare Escentuals would look great, and other weeks it seemed to almost highlight every mark on my face. I wasn't even really sure what the hype was!

I poked around the Clinique counter one day and found the "Gentle Light Power" which despite its name gave me really great coverage and also visually minimized my pores. I would use it over a liquid foundation by Clinique for the spring, then in the summer I used the power by itself. The size is pretty big and it seemed to last forever.

Thankfully now after Accutane my oil isn't really a problem anymore and I finally have some liberty in trying other things, but I definitely have spent a ridiculous amount of money trying to minimize shine and pores...I feel your pain! Oh, and in my opinion the oil blotting sheets are a complete waste of money...a tissue works just fine!

I've heard that Lemons help with oily skin (although I've never tried it). Apparently the idea is to take whole slices of lemons and rub them on your skin.... Not sure if it works but I thought it was worth a mention.

Oh, and Bare Minerals is alright, but liquid is better it seems.

About the lemon, my sister-in-law had a terrible experience with it.
Lemon is actually light sensitive. So if you use it during the day and go outside, your face will actually become yellowish.

My sister-in-law made a lemon mask once on her own, then she went out to the beach... well not a smart idea. Her face is yellow for like 3 months...

With the matifying lotion, many brands have it. Origin has a good one, Neutrogena also have one. I don't remember their name, but if you go to the store, you should be able to find it.

I hope the pills help out your skin like they did for me! There is only so much you can do with products you put on your skin. I buy the Benefit Dr. Feel Good either at department stores that carry Benefit brand cosmetics, or at Sephora.

i've been dealing with the same problems. bare minerals made my skin look disgusting and aggravated my acne as apparently it contains bismuth oxychloride which is a skin irritant for some people. i've been using estee lauder double wear foundation and it completely covers my red marks and doesn't smug when i blot. as for greasy skin, drinking water with lemon juice in it may help minimize this. i've experienced good results with drinking lemon juice by either putting the juice of half a lemon in a glass of water in the morning and afternoon, or adding a bit of lemon juice to each glass throughout the day (it's really important to drink at least 8 glasses a day). i've heard, but yet to try, taking moderately large doses of vitamin b5 to slow down oil production. i've also noticed that the more calories i take in the oilier my skin gets. i hope this helps. good luck :)

Burt's Bees Tomato toner and soap work very well for oily skin. I also recommend Alba's Pineapple Enzyme face wash. Also, even with oily skin, it is VERY important to still moisturize. If your skin starts getting dry, it actually tends to produce MORE oil.
