The inner ear is a place of great mystery. Its very small and delicate, and as we know, if you make the Gods of Inner Ear mad, you will suffer. Now, in my life, when I have gotten sick, it all made sense at some point, due to modern science etc. We modern humans don't believe in making gods angry, after all, do we? Sicknesses are caused by little bugs we believe in, and if we have a microscope, and some purple dye, we may even be able to see them. Our bodies fight off infections, and if one is trained as a doctor, if there is an infection, it can be seen, and causes inflammation. No inflammation, no bug. Right? What if someone complains and there is no bug? Ok first, maybe some part has broken, like when your car gets a flat. Like heart disease. Got old, broke down. Jaw wore out. etc. Or maybe your own immune system is confused and is attacking your own body. It happens.( I understand pressure differentials in the ear can cause the spinning sensation. This can be caused by a large number of things.) Or of course, maybe you're just a head case, and are causing this yourself. God forbid a doctor doesn't know, because 5 out of six cases, he'd rather blame his patient, than admit its wasn't in his medical text. So anyway, if I havent completely bored you and your still reading, heres my point- Back when I was first ill, I had the feeling one has when coming down with a cold, which is what for me-made me really think it was in fact a bug. But WHY ---WHY WHY WHY didnt my body fight it off like it usually does? A virus will run its course, and if it doesnt, it will either take over, or maybe hide out- they do that sometimes, or go away. They don't just reach this equilibrium point and just hang around and make life unpleasent. Bacteria more to the point don't do that a t all. Kill or be killed. Now early on, I somehow discovered that eating horse radish seemed to zap the symptoms very well, and I in fact had a week where the fog, etc. was totally gone. I still had pain (a little) in my ears, though. Then it came back. Then the horse radish stopped working altogether. curiouser and curiouser.
I think it is (for me) a yeast overgrowth, that somehow landed in my ears. Yeast (a fungus) mutates quickly, and like other small living things, has millions of progeny. I got hold of some Nystatin, and noticed some positive effects. Nystatin does not penetrate when eaten, but if its (the fungus) in your mouth or gut, it works well. I'm going to try some diflucan, a more powerful anti fungal, as soon as I have some dough. Meantime I have been putting hydrogen peroxide in my ears, and no one can tell me it hasn't helped. (well, you can tell me, but I won't listen) I won't recommend it because I don't know if your 'supposed' to put that in your ears, but hey! its working for me. Ciao.
PS If it is yeast, no one would know, because all sorts of yeast live in the body already. Yeast overgrowth is all over the internet with thousands of quack cures and testimonials. Maybe they're not even quack cures. You can find dozens of sites which will list brain fog and related sypmtoms. Really curious to know if anyone has gone down this path.
