Im 31, mother of 3. I was always thin, lost baby weight after my 2 daughters, but after my last child I had my gall bladder removed a month after having him, in since that 4yrs ago, ive just doubled my weight Im almost 300 lbs, I have tried several diet clinics doctors drugs for weight loss, exercise, i just cant get the weight off. Ive had other symptoms that im wondering if it could be possible that I may have something that will cause me to be unable to lose weight. Since my son, I rarely have periods, if I do there extremely heavy full of huge clots, and painful. but then Ill go 4 -5 mths before I have another. Its so heavy i have to wear a pad huge one and super tampon n still change very very often.
Every time I go to Drs they weigh me and thats all they talk about they hear nothing i say, when I was preg I complained of horrible back pain under my shoulder blades they said it was my weight... To find out it was an infected gall bladder which I had to live with until I finally took myself to a specialist & demanded he look past my weight an run a darn test..
I just havent felt right since the birth of my last child tired, light headed a lot I feel like my heads in a cloud bad

Not to harp on the weight issue but I do know that being overweight or underweight can cause haovic on your body. It can cause you to not have your period. I know you said that you have tried all different kinds of diets and all but have you tried having a personal trainer? Someone that really knows about nutrition?
Have you ever had your thyroid tested to see if it is functioning properly? Your thyroid could have something to do with your weight gain. You know your own body better than anyone. If you don't like what the doctor says go get a 2nd or 3rd opinion or how many ever it takes.
I hope you can get to the bottom of this!

This suggestion may seem silly to many, however, it definitely helps. Wear a mask or tape over mouth when preparing meals. It is so easy to nibble away many calories and then sit down at the table and eat a complete meal.
From one overweight person to another!! Give it a try. I lost 65 lbs. by keeping an invisible zipper in closed position over my mouth when in presence of food other than when sitting at the table with 3 oz. meat, 1/2 cup green veg, plus another 1/2 cup green veg on my plate, no seconds and no snacks.

Have your thyroid checked as soon as you can!!!!! SOme of your symptoms are just classic hypothyroid symptoms. This can often be triggered by pregnancy.....that's what happened to me!
Even if one is not overweight, it can be extremely difficult to get an MD to PROPERLY check a thyroid. Half the time they just perscribe antidepressants. You want to make sure you get the following tests:
TSH, FT4, FT3 and Tpo Ab.
Make sure you get results yourself, on paper, and post them on the thyroid board. That is were you'll likely get the answers you seek. THe other scenario is the nurse calling you and saying everything is "normal".
Good luck to you and hang in there.

d5miles- I would def find a new doctor.
When I was wanting to have my fourth child, but was unable to lose weight, I chose a new doctor that saw past my weight and treated me great. Granted, due to my weight I had borderline High blood pressure, and was super high risk for gestational diabetes. I was treated high risk and had to see a high risk perinatologist throughout my pregnancy, but neither my OB or my specialist ignored me or the baby due to the morbid obesity.
Since we are young, and moms running around chasing our kids we might not let our weight slow us down much, but the truth is that we are going to have to get this weight off or it is going to kill us. ((But this is off topic, I apologize!))
I would suggest that you find a new doctor that does not dismiss you and your physical problems. Find a doctor that respects you and tries to fix things! It will help you out a lot to have someone help you find better health, comfort, and peace!!!

Did you happen to have gestational diabetes with any of your children? What are your blood sugars like? If you have any sort of insulin resistance then that can DEFINITELY impede weight loss. I couldn't lose one pound despite eating 1200 calories a day (I'd gain weight eating carrots!), and then I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. I'm a T1 diabetic and usually diabetics with this type are thinner, but I wasn't because of the PCOS. I was put on a drug called metformin and it has helped tremendously! The weight is literally falling off of me because my insulin resistance has gone away.
When you gain weight your insulin resistance goes up and it messes with your periods. My suggestion is to get tested for T2 diabetes as well as insulin resistance along with your thyroid. As for a hemoglobin A1c test. If it's high 5s and into the 6s ask to be put on metformin. That will DEFINITELY help with your weight loss -- because with A1c levels like that you would be considered "pre diabetic" and you definitely don't want that to turn into T2 diabetes.

My doctors do the same.
No matter what I go in for.
They always ignore it, and bring up my weight.
But either way, it's because they care for you.
And their really concerned for your health.
Being Obese comes with ALOT of health risks.
Like Heart problems and Diabetes.

d5miles;
I'm going to be honest with you, if you are dissatisfied with your doctor, absolutely raise your concerns to them.
Tell them you are tired of them blaming everything on your weight.. you know something is not right.
If they continue to oppose you, I sincerely suggest you find another practice.
I am beyond morbidly obese (this is due to many problems I have) and I had to change doctors about ten times before I found one who listens to me.
Come to find out the 'diets' and 'exercise' 'plans' my previous doctors put me on or recommended would have likely killed me had I followed them.. because I have a relatively rare condition.
I KNEW something was not right during my pregnancy. I KNEW something was wrong after I gave birth.. I just knew.
No one knows your body like you do and if your doctor isn't respecting your intimate knowledge of yourself, find one who listens!
You have my absolute best wishes!

I hear you, I get tired of my endo talking about losing weight, he acts like I haven't spent the last 30 years doing one diet (and losing lots of weight) after another losing tons of weight, if one diet actually worked, addressed the real cause of obesity I wouldn't have had to keep going on diets again and again a zillion times. I think to myself doesn't he keep up on the latest research on obesity that shows it is not a calorie in caloire in problem but has been shown to be something more? sure if you overeat you get fat, but why would the body keep asking for fuel when it has an abundance stored? why are we overeating, why are we overhungry all the time?
first of all doctors don't necessarily harp on people for their weight because they care, though some do, it is because they blame all health problems of fat people on their fat. they have been brainwashed by the medical community (AMA) which is a for profit organization started by the rockerfellers, who by the way don't give a crap about our health, othewise why did david rockerfeller back in 1901 hire agents to go to various medical schools and find the ones who taught extensivly on nutriton, herbs and what we call alternative treatments and shut them down?
the colleges are funded by drug companies which incidentally are owned by the rockerfeller foundation which is owned by you guessed it the rockerfellers. so naturally they are going to blow out of proportions the dire affects of obesity, hypertension, etc, by fudging the numbers, and fake science and studies. no doubt the purpose of all these your numbers should be here, probably deliberatly lowered beyond necessity to create a market for their drugs which are very expensive.
I can think of an example, which my doctor happens to agree with, that what was considered a healthy cholesterol number is actually still to high, but not to worry if you can't get it down furthur via diet and exercise, which they know won't work, we have drugs that will do that for you. in fact healthy numbers are relative to your body,. my doc says all this cholesterol drugs is a load of bull.
so instead of being educated in health, the doctors are taught medicine, the wealthy stockholders brand of medicine that is.
I have been battling obesity most of my life. I have tried, low calorie diets the most during my first half of my battling life, sounds like a war doesn't it? the next half was low fat and high veggie, lean meats etc, high fiber carbs etc, then I decided something similar to atkins, but it didn't work I got to hungry, sick and it wasn't something I could stick to the rest of my life, and didn't lose much anyway.
I have tried other ideas too, but they only helped in some ways but never addressed or cured my obesity. along with these fat loss attempts I did the exercise too, exercise wasn't really a problem for me since I like to hike, swim bike and walk alot so I didn't really have to force it.
now what I am doing (because I suffer such aweful symptoms) is a moderated version of low carb. I am hoping by doing this I can reverse the insulin resistance (which worsens sleep apnea) and get more energy even if I don't lose weight.
I am tired of not having much energy or motivation to do work, or even play that much and tired of not having good night sleep either. insulin resistance decreases the effect of exercise in improving fat burning for stamina and decreases the training affect of exercise so that you get frustrated because you see little improvement in stamina, strenght or endurance from exercising. if your body is mainly a sugar burner and is unable to burn alot of fat during exercise, you lose steam about the time your sugar runs low.
for me that is about the 2 and 1/2 to 3 mile mark in walking. I remember a time when I could walk 10 miles with fair ease. those days are gone. insulin resistance affects all of this. it also causes hypoglycemia during the night if it gets really bad. your liver doesn't see the insulin floating around and thinks your sugar is low, releases sugar into your body when you have enough already triggoring more insulin to deal with the over glucose load. such a vicious cycle. of course if the alpha cells of your pancreas doen't see the insulin or sugar amounts in your blood it thinks the sugar is low and it releases glucagon which acts mainly on the liver to release it's sugar load.
so what you have is a real mess. i read some articles that thinks what happens is there is plaque buildup around the alpha cells and it loses contact with the beta cells since beta cells have glucose moniters but alpha doesn't. these plaques are believed to be caused by trans fats rancid cooking oil, and high insulin levels. high insulin levels caused by surges of sugar from too many quick digesting carbs coming in at once.
by the way plaques build up in other areas (they call them protein something, like fiberous material can't remember the name)that affect insulin response and body's absorption of nutrients.
type 2 has been described as a cell starvation condition. the sugar and fat is there in the blood, (high insulin levels, high triglycerides, high cholesterol) but it can't get it because the cells are forced to remove their receptors from their surfaces due to high toxicity in the blood or damage to those receptors from crap in our diet.
sometimes the cell membranes are too sticky or thick due to again transfats, rancid veggie oils like soy bean oil, or corn oil, and crap in our meats and dairy foods. so what we have here is lots of damage from poor quality foods over many years.
who knows maybe they are putting stuff in our food to make us overeat so they have an excuse to regulate food, after all control food you control people and usually when someone wants that kind of control it is about power not altruist motives.

Hi,
Unfortunately, the Dr is right about the health risks. However, getting rid of fat is very difficult. I'm not a spring chicken anymore and have gained about 60lbs since I got out the service in 05' and am trying to make a comeback on weigh loss. Many changes have to occur in order to succeed. Going on a diet is not one of them. TV is full of stuff about success, but its hard to imagine the losses that are shown and spoken by those that say they lost with any of those programs or equipment. The answer is one we all know....eat right, and exercise.
I have lost weight using this method and it always works, but as we grow older, the effort seems much greater since we just aren't what we used to be and have sustained different injuries over our lifespan to prevent alot of the best exercises. I used to run for 2 miles uphill during the hot nights here in Texas and compete in one of the downtown buildings running 70 flights of stairs. All it takes is to have knee surgery that didn't quite come out as it should have, and even treadmill time sinks to none. Stationary bicycles could cure insomnia if they were comfortable enough to sleep on. However for my aerobic exercise, a bicycle will have to be it since it is low impact. So, I began just after visiting my son in early May, and made it all the way to last week when I became dehydrated, something that has never happened to me all my life. Thinking back, I was living just as always with one significant difference and yes I did drink water before, during and after any riding, just not enough. So now I've missed two days of riding and am still feeling a tiny bit light headed after eating which by reading on this site leads me to believe that I get lightheaded since water is required for digestion and so that means I am still dehydrated. Ugh, I might miss Monday's workout. This is just one of the many obstacles us older folks encounter. Our habits don't always include all the rules of health. We need to re-learn what all them youngin's already know about eating and exercising. Then we need to find a new way to live and learn to live that new way that we create. We all know where our mistakes are. It's not rocket science. We can look at our diets and all the lights come on. At my job, there are constantly cakes, pies, donuts, burgers and many other things we love just floating by for us to take and we have to stop grabbing them and get serious about seeing our shoes from a standing position. Losing weight is an uphill battle and we have handicaps but we have to win. All we have to do is make it the most important thing in our life, and in truth, it is our life we want.

I am so sorry you have to go through this but good for you for speaking up. You know you can refuse to be weighed...let them weigh you once but if you are going to a doctor that they have already weighed you for whatever reason at another appointment thenI simply refused to be weighed. I too have had unexpected weight gain and until they can tell me why then why weigh me. Weight is critical if you are a child as some medications are calculated on their weight but there really isn't many reasons for a person to be weighed absolutely everytime you go for an appt. Nurses get on autopilot and do it out of habit but they can also write down you refused...or simply write nothing. It sounds like you just need to find a doctor that will do a full battery of blood work and other tests because something isn't right and you can feel it. The only way to prove you don't just sit around and stuff your face with food is to keep a daily journal for a month of every single bite you put in your mouth and this will prove you aren't doing anything to justify such weight gain. Take care and keep fighting for a doctor to see what they can do to figure out what really is going on. Good luck.
