hi, i'm new to this board.
I'm 17 years old and i had a stroke when i was 11 months old.It left the entire right side of my body paralyzed. I was too young to really understand what had happened to me. I've gone to Shriners for OT and PT all my life to help me recover. When i entered high school realty finally sunk in. I've gone in and out of depression after i fully understood what happened.
In the past few months i've had really bad spasticity in my hand and arm even though i do all my excercises and stretch it all the time. I even had a couple of my friends help me but the muscles were so tight my hand wouldn't budge. My mom wont let me go see a hand specialist because she thinks by just stretching it my problem will go away. but it hasnt. Im scared because its never been this bad and i dont want it to go back to the way it was right after my stroke. it was stuck up by my neck. Once i turn 18 i cant go to shiners anymore because its a childrens hospital. but i still need care because my spasticity is getting way out of hand.
can anyone help me or know what im goin through?

Spasticity is not a muscle problem, it is a lack of brain control problem, but you do need to work on stretching those muscles to prevent contractures from taking place.
