View Full Version : Nicotinic Acid (Niacin) for dizziness

Reading a recent post about Meniere's, reminded me of something:

My mom was diagnosed with Meniere's many, many years ago, but now with new technology and updated information, her current physicians do not feel this was an accurate diagnosis.

However, when she would get dizzy, she would take a prescription medication called Nicotinic Acid (also known as Niacin. This seemed to clear up her dizziness supposedly by increasing blood flow to the inner ear. The side effect of this medication CAN be dizziness, and also flushing, since it increases the blood flow. But you can purchase non-flushable Nicotinc Acid.

Also, has anyone heard of using diurectics for relief of their symptoms? I have a friend who mom has Meniere's, and she has had good results by taking a diuretic - I guess in her case, decreasing water volume has helped her along.

Just curious if anyone has used or read about these two treatments? Thanks.

It's also good for lowering LDL Cholesterol I've heard too. What is this flushing I've heard so much about? Sounds painful for some reason.

Your face becomes flushed because of the increased blood flow. It's not painful, but you can look like you've got a pretty good blush - so many people opt to take the non-flushable brand. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I take Niacin sometimes. I have both 500mg of Non Flush and also with Flush. The flush version makes you red for a while and gives you a vascular look. Its good sometimes because I workout and my veins pop out.

Wowwweee:
Have you checked out the supplements from Johns of Ohio regime? Alot of those supplements have a lot to do with increasing the blood flow. Just a thought.
