My husband had a stroke one week ago.
He was rushed to the hospital and given the "clot buster" within the 3 hour window.
He was given the second CT 24 hours later and it showed no further damage. He had some vision problems, but everything else was fine..no speech problem, no weakness, etc.

He then became uncooperative and finally was declared incompetent... turns out, without a health care proxy in NY the hospital can then do anything they want without having to consult the family!!

So... they claimed they needed to do 2 more important tests.. (heart and arteries?) to be sure there were no more clots.. if so, get him on blood thinner.

However.. 56 hours after declaring him incompetent because he wouldn't let him touch him.. they still had NOT done any of those things!

Finally his brother talked him into allowing it... they found all was clear.. but...the CT then showed the area of damage to his brain MUCH larger!

He now has a profound speech problem, cannot lift his right leg or right arm.
He was kept in ICU for 5 more days, but they had already told us that there was nothing more medically they could do for him..he needed to move into therapy....but... still they have him in ICU... because he was protesting this care.. they tied him down and hooked him up to feeding tubes,catheter, etc.

I cannot understand what kind of care this is.

It seems that the stoke was made MUCH worse by the hospital staff... are they trying to cover up their mess up?
