You sound unconvinced by your doctors diagnosis.

Your middle ear is connected to the area at the back of your nose/throat by a narrow tube which allows you to equalise the air pressure between the outer and middle ear periodically, when you yawn or swallow (this is why when you swallow when you take off in a plane it relieves the pressure in your ears).

Your sinuses also connect to the inside of your nose. If you have problems in this area and have excess mucous it can block this narrow tube. The air pressure cannot now be equalised between the middle and outer ear and any difference will cause discomfort. To add insult to injury, the air within the middle ear can be slowly absorbed which pulls the eardrum inwards, resulting in pain and hearing problems.

I hope this helps a bit. Give what your doctor has prescribed a try. I know we radiate a mistrust of doctors on this board but they seem pretty good with middle ear issues like yours. Good luck

he said the same thing, that my eard drum looked like it was being sucked in, he gave me LuSonex-it a expectorant-decongestant, it has 800 mg. GualifenesinPhenylephrine and 20 mg. hydrochloride, and i take it 2 times a day. do u know how long this discomfort will last?
