Is there any deficiency that could cause a lack of peristalsis action?

Contraction of your intestinal muscles (peristalsis) is basically caused by intaking too little insoluble fiber.
There are 2 types of fiber ---soluble that absorb fluids and bulk up your stool and insoluble fiber that causes your intestines to contract causing peristalsis.
All fruits, and all veggies including greens are insoluble fiber along with the outer parts of grains(bran), beans, peas & legumes. Also, nuts and seeds. FiberCon is an insoluble fiber.
Soluble fiber is the inner part of grains, and beans, peas. All root veggies are soluble -- like potatoes, carrots, beets, turnips & chicory root that is also called Inulin-- that is put in many processed foods. OTC fiber like Metamucil that is psyllium, Benefiber, Fiber Choice are all water soluble fiber.
No fiber is contained in all meats, seafoods and dairy products.
To have normal BMs a person needs 25 to 35 gms of fiber daily and it needs to be a combination of both soluble for bulk and insoluble for peristalsis.
The list of foods is by far not complete but it will give you an idea how various foods makes your intestines function to produce stools.
You also need to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily along with a moderate amount of exercise.

Hi, as much as i appreciate the help; i meant other than the obvious things. I do take fiber in the form of metamucil or similar..
One thing I have noticed in my case is I'm feeling 100% better not taking enzymes for a day.
I'm apparently lacking them, but they're not helping me at all by taking them..
My story if interested:
Hallo
I've suffered from food intolerance or allergies since childhood. I'm now 37, and things aren't a lot better.
I recently went to a naturopath because I've suspected leaky gut for a while now, but thought I should have it tested to see I'm not barking up the wrong tree.
The test she recommended was a stool test to test my gastro function and to test for possible parasites.
The test showed negative on parasites, normal levels of good flora, but one thing it did show is my enzyme levels are very low.
A normal level is 400mg to 880mg% dry wt (whatever that means). Mine is 200mg%
I started taking broad spectrum enzymes, and bile salts for fat breakdown.
For a while I was feeling less tired and better in general, but have slipped again to feeling worse than before. My skin is puffy and dry, and I've gotten extremely depressed. I'm not sure if the depression is from the frustration I'm feeling or something else. Could this be some sort of worse before it gets better type of thing?
My diet is very plain. I stay away from dairy, wheat, etc etc.. I basically eat veggies, fish, and some nuts to keep the weight on.
I'm thinking that maybe I should take my broad spectrum enzymes and leave the bile salts be, cause maybe that's causing issues.
Help????!!
Chris

Just an update:
I've been diagnosed as hypothyroidism. Dealing with that through a Naturopath for now and things are improving amazingly. It's been like pulling teeth and very frustrating to get to this point, as the medical professionals have let me down big time. 2 years + of hell.... I'm on the right track now though, and will go thru an endocrinologist for further help..
This board is very helpful tho..
thanks
