I had a right cheilectomy on 1/3/08. Now I am trying to do my exercises for fear of losing the greatest amount of mobility possible. Also trying to walk correctly so that walking out of alignment doesn't complicate my other foot or hip, but the ball of my operative foot feels like there is a walnut under the skin. Very swollen and painful, making walking normally impossible. Hopefully this will resolve, but am I losing valuable time flexing my toe or does everything return to normal in its own time.

Did you mean '09, not '08? I sure hope so! Anyway, if '09, then you should still be in a surgical boot. Stitches generally come out at 2 weeks and the I had to wear the boot another week before I could get into a clog style at 3 weeks out.
If you meant '08 as stated, you need to go get a second opinion immediately.
