my father suffers from very bad headaches following his most recent stroke. Are there any other meds he can take besides tylenol on ultram to reduce his headaches. he takes an aspirin daily. would he benefit from a diuretic?? please help.

Have you informed his doctor about these headaches? I would let the dr. know, and ask his/her advise over the proper way to handle headaches following a stroke. I would not let anyone other than his doctor, advise you on the proper medication...either prescription, or over the counter.
I have had 4 strokes, and with the combination of medications I take, I must not take most over the counter pain relievers. Each case is differant. Best to you, and your father...

I have frequent headaches as well and my doctor changed me from aspirin to warfarin because of the way it was effecting my platelets. I still have headaches, but they aren't anywhere near as severe and only last a few minutes.
Like Writeleft states, it's different for everyone, but that may be a thought to talk to your dad's doctor about.

I had my stroke July 2008 and by October the headaches were unbearable. The doctor started me on what they call a steroid burst (high dose for a very short time.) Along with that a high dose of Ultram and it did seem to control the pain. Hope you find relief.

Hi, Just want to say that my husband has roaming headaches ever since his stroke a yr ago. We are trying to see a neurologist that is supposedly really good. I will let you know if he finds the reasons for these headaches and finds a cure for them. We may have to wait a month to see him but it's worth it.

I've had headaches for about a year following a stroke, but they've tapered off significantly.
headaches, twitches, numbness is pretty common after a stroke and I've read numerous places they last a year or two.
