About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a high risk strain of HPV. I had a couple of abnormal or ascus paps and then had a colp. I think the cold turned out to be CIN 1 or somthing like that. Anyway, since then I have had all normal paps. However, for the last 2 months the week before I get my period, I have been having a strange dark discharge. It isn't heavy, but there is enough there where I need to wear a panty liner. I remember before I was diagnosed with HPV, I have having similar problums with this same type of discharge. Does anyone know if this is from the HPV. Is it a symptom of cancer?!? Should I go in for a pap smear asap? I'm also on birth control... ortho tri cyclen lo. Could it be spotting from the pill?

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I would really appreciate it since I am kind freaking out here! Thanks!!!!

Hi Marie. It could be from the pill. It could be mid-cycle spotting which some women have when they ovulate (but doesn't the pill keep you from ovulating?).

May I ask how old you are? The spotting between your periods can mean different things at different ages.

It certainly doesn't hurt to call your doctor's office and talk with the doctor's nurse to see what she advises. Most likely, she'll tell you to come in.
