Ever since I had no choice but to go back to work in retail 2 months ago I noticed that my hands have become a little rough and I'm getting callouses. I've been using a scrub meant for feet to try keep the roughness away but it's not helping. Does anyone have any advice how I can keep my hands nice and soft?

Hello satine,
I'm a chronic hand washer so to keep my hands from getting so dry this is what I do. Take your cooking oil (I use olive oil) and put about as much as you can hold in your hand (cup your hand to hold it) then take sugar and pour it into your hand (about a teaspoon or so) and rub your hands together. The sugar acts like a scrub and the oil softens your hands. Then rinse off in warm water--enough so that your hands aren't real oily. When I remember to do this my hands look alot better and feel better. precious49

my hands get really dry, especially during the winter, and i recently started using extra virgin olive oil and it's working really well. the oil gets absorbed within maybe 5 minutes and olive oil doesn't clog pores so if you accidentally touch your face you should be fine, as long as your hands are clean that is. good luck :)

I use Sally Hansen's nail and cuticle cream. In addition to other treatments that were mentioned, this is something you can just keep in a purse to use throughout the day. It comes in an orange bottle and is near the nail polishes in stores. It smells good and lasts longer than a regular lotion. It also makes my nails shiny if I keep using it. I was having trouble with chapped hands that would get dry and bleed and was getting ragged cuticles and this cream has been helping! They have a few different ones and I've liked all of the ones I tried.

Im an elementary school music teacher so Im always washing my hand and using bleach/water to sanitize the instruments/toys. I like to use 100% coco butter. They sell it at CVS in a stick made by Queen Helen. It's easy to keep in my bag I just rub it all over my hands and they stay nice and soft. It smells just like chocolate too!

One option would be to go to a local beauty salon or Day spa and get a parrafin wax dip, I am a hairstylist and like to try to get one of these once a week, most places you can get just the dip jor like $10. There is also a homemade lotion going around our small town, I am not quite sure the exact ingredients but I know that it has vitamin E coco butter baby lotion and vaseline, my grandma made it and passed it out, you get a lot when you make it and it works wonderfully. It helps repair dry cracked hands and keeps them soft. keep lotion withyou so that whenever you wash your hands you can follow up with lotion

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream. You can buy it at most supermarkets, Walmart, drugstores, etc. It's a bit pricy ($7.00 I think?) but goes a long, looooong way. One tube usually lasts me a few months.

Use the tiniest amount - half a dime on the palm of your hand, and rub in well, all over your hands. If you do this while your hands are moist (right after you wash them, for instance), it works even better.

It's mostly glycerin and works with water to retain moisture in your hands.

I use it every time I wash my hands, and they're softer than a baby's little bottom. It's great for your cuticles, too!

Try Amlactin. It's a deep moisturizing lotion that also exfoliates.....lots of layers of dry /rough skin suck up moisture leaving your hands feel icky and dry.

This stuff is GREAT!

You can get it at Walgreens.....it can be kind of pricey, but you don't use it as much or as often.

Like other people have reported....the texture/consistency is a bit odd....like elmers glue....sort of, NOT sticky though. Once it soaks in, your hands feel LUXURIOUS! It's odorless. It smell funny (not stinky, just odd) coming out of the bottle at first, but doesn't go on smelling that way on our hands. It's odorless on your hands and skin.

Good Luck! :)

For all around hand lotion, I love Aveeno. I keep a bottle on my desk at work, and at every sink in our house. It beats the other hand lotions.
