i think i may have herpes, as i am currently in indonesia where medical advice is very unreliable, i cannot have tests untill my return to australia in late february. neither i or my wife have had other partners. i was wondering how would it be possible to catch herpes? we have a very active sex life [im 64 and my wife is 31] somtimes after sex or mastubation i have friction burns on my penis, which often scab and sometimes i pick these scabs could having vaginal sex in this condition cause herpes?.

Sex alone does not cause herpes. Either you or your partner have to come in contact with the virus at some point. They say that it can lie dormant in one's system for years, though. Also, many people's symptoms are so subtle that they don't realize that they have herpes for quite some time (and in that time have often shared their gift with others),
It's certainly possible that you're sores are frictions burns.... I know my husband gets them sometimes if I'm having an outbreak and we can't have sex and he masturbates. Those friction burns can look pretty nasty.
You'll have to get a diagnoses when you can get to a doctor. This board is a great source of support and info, though!
