is there a certain strain that causes mouth warts? and is there a way to find out what strains you have

Yes, HPV can cause warts in the mouth. I do not know of the test. Anyone who suspects he/she has warts in the mouth needs to go to the doctor.

The test to determine the strain of HPV is called in situ hybridization and it is done on the DNA of the HPV in the tissue obtained through a biopsy. Recent studies at John's Hopkins Oncology Center have shown that 25% of head/neck (which includes oral) cancers are caused by HPV and of those 90% were HPV type 16, one of the high risk (most aggressive for malignancy) types.
