With left flank pain. It started suddenly, was sharp like a knife, I was writhing all over the place.
I had a severe kidney infection with dementia and extreme fatigue (could not move actually) in September. I also have IC (interstitial Cystitis) and it has been kicked off.
They did urine culture and it showed nothing. By the time I was seen by the ER Doc it has gotten a LOT better, however is still kinda sore this morning and like it's sitting on the edge of starting again this morning.
QUESTION: Can a kidney stone wax and wane........get better, then worse ? I was all over that car going to ER and could not keep my mouth shut or body still when I had the SHARP SHOOTING PAINS, otherwise it was ACHING.
Could this be an early stone ? Kidney Problem ? I had no fever but was beginning to get a little nauseated.
Also : I take a lot of calcium, can that pose kidney stone problems ?
Any input appreciated. THANKS, SNICKERS60

Hello,
I don't know the answers to all your questions about stones as I've never had one. However, I do know that if one has to use calcium supplements, the kind that's best absorbed by the body (with lesser chance of causing stones), is calcium citrate.
Hope you get your diagnosis soon:angel:

A kidney stone can cause off and on pain as it's moving. I've heard conflicting info about calcium supplements causing kidney stones. Stones or infection can cause nausea though.

I have been to the ER many times by this point due to Kidney stones. Each time they have done a CT Scan and have found the stone. Most of the time when I had the severe pain you are talking about the stone was blocking the Ureter. I have had a couple of instances where the episode lasts for various amounts of time and then wanes off. Usually I am sore for the next couple of days.
