I'm new to using a messg. board & am curious if anyone else out there has or had this particular toe/ foot problem. I am a runner, and have an active busy lifestyle, but petrified of the procedure the podiatrist described for surgery. I'm a wimp for pain!

Do a search here for "cheilectomy." There are several threads on this topic. I've posted many. Since you are in Vegas, I suggest calling over to UNLV's athletic department and asking who they use for "turf toe" and other foot ailments. (Turf toe is one of the athletic generic terms, along with runner's toe and tennis toe, for the group of conditions which cause hallus limitus and hallux rigidus) I used a sports med orth surgeon who does only feet. Shaquille O'Neal used the chairman of podiatry at UCLA. Just find the best doc for this condition (maybe ask your running buddies who they use) and read all the posts here. You'll get plenty of good info.
FYI, I had mine 6 years ago and have no problems running, wearing heels, dancing, etc.

Thank you Titchou for all the info. I just scheduled a 2nd opinion/evaluation w/ a well known sports Dr. He's worked many marathons, is respected in his field & having him lend his opinion on my foot will help me through this w/ a lot more confidence. I still can't believe this is all happening---one day I run 6 mi, the next I'm signing up for crutches! Thanks again for the support.
