Hi all!

I noticed a post on a previous board asking if anyone knew a good neurotologist in the NYC area. I am in desperate need of the best recommendation for the Washington, DC area. I have been diagnosed with a Cholesterol Granuloma that must be drained and shunted. I saw an ENT today who said "If you were my sister, I would send you to Mass ENT. In the right hands the operation is complicated and complex, but with very high success rates. In the wrong hands, the risks are enormous."

I don't think logistically I can swing a week at Mass ENT, nor will my insurance cover out of state doctors/hospitals. I want to find the most qualified, best neurotologist in my local area, but have NO IDEA how to go about it. Any ideas? Suggestions?? Thank you so much.

....."but have NO IDEA how to go about it. Any ideas? Suggestions??"........

Below is the web site for the American Neurotology Society---think I would send off some e-mails to the "Executive Counsel", "Membership" & "Administration" contacts---their e-mail addresses are listed on the page---outlining your situation/questions----

....."I want to find the most qualified, best neurotologist in my local area,"........

Below is a list of the membership---with addresses, phone numbers & locations---its a "PDF" file so you will need Adobe Reader---which you prob already have---you can scan the list for Nuero-oto's in the D.C. area---I looked at it quickly---thought I saw a few---but not sure---

Then I think I would search (using Google) on "Balance Centers"----and get a contact point---from your ENT---up at Boston---and ask them for a reference for your area......they will know.....

Others, I am sure will have suggestions---but that is all I could think of-----I hope you got a second opinion on this---I agree with your ENT on the "risks"---I you sure---you can't make it up to Boston & that your Insurance Co. will not pay????

Good Luck!
