I have had muscular dystrophy for many years. I do not have Duchenne. I have another form that is common in adults. However I've done years of research on all the Muscular Dystrophy types. Here's what is known about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy:

Girls rarely get Duchenne's, only boys suffer from it. The illness is passed on to the child on the "X" chromosome.

Boys get one "X" from the mother and one "Y" from the father.
Girls get one "X" from the mother and one "X" from the father.

If the boy inherits a bad "X" then he will get the illness. If a girls gets a bad "X" it's not as bad because the other good "X" will keep her healthy. BUT it's important to realize the baby girl can someday pass on the bad "X" to her children. She is a carrier (like your wife).
