Im curious if Im going to get it. I was watching my niece, who is 2. She has herpes. We didn't know it at the time. but i kissed her cheek and was handling food. i might have touched her mouth then mine with my finger, trying to get her to open her mouth. Should i be worried that i might get the virus?

If she had an active outbreak, then yes. Look up Herpes in young chldren. It seems like there is something besides Herpes that only looks like Herpes. She's so young to have it. Was she tested for it?

It is common for children to get oral herpes, they get it from kissing relatives. If you have never been exposed to herpes before, then by kissing her cheek when she has an outbreak could infect you. Chances are you have been exposed sometime in your life whether or not you have symptoms. If you don't get a cold sore in a few weeks, you might want to get tested just to know if you are immune or not. If you are immune, then you can relax around her.
