View Full Version : Connection to sinus trouble

I would really like to know how many of you suffer from sinus related type symptoms along with the dizziness, etc. symptoms....how many have a history of sinus problems....! Today I found that when I started to have a "tight" head and slight dizziness, I put a hot rag on my face near my sinuses and breathed in a little steam. That seemed to really improve the symptoms.

I suffer from this as well. My head gets so clogged up and heavy and I am usually ok when I sit or lay down, but as soon as I stand and walk....wow. Big difference. It feels like I am all over the place http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif
It's like the gook in my head is moving around and making me all out of wack. It also affects my right ear which adds to the balance probs. No luck yet with anything I have tried. I was ok in the house today but as soon as I stepped outside in the cold air and wind (which I thought would help!) it get terrible. Terrible off balance and sinus headache. I am very, very frustrated. I do not have a sinus infection bc with my 24/7 post nasal drip...none of it is ever green or yellow...always clear. And last time it was like this and I had a sinus ct is was clear. Not sure what to do from this point on. I just want to live my normal life again.
p/s..also tried allergy meds...made me feel worse.

I would get a cat scan done of the sinus......sometimes post nasal drip does not have to have colour to for you to have an infection.
I had a cat scan done of the sinus.......and they said I had an infection in the ethmoid sinus.....antibiotics cleared that up.....but not the dizzies. I had no colour.

hi mary-anne

i was just wondering if you've looked into the possibility of a TMJ disorder. the tightness in your head is a really big red flag. often people with TMJ troubles have sinus aches, headaches, dizziness etc. i have a TMJ problem and am pretty sure i have a vestibular problem too. i've been using a night splint for about 2 months now and have noticed a big decrease in my sinus pain and sharp stabby headaches. this is just something you may want to look into. there is a TMJ board in Healthboards.

take care

I never thought about TMJ because I don't grind my teeth or anything like that. The only jaw problem I have had in the past......get this.....instead of locking shut as I have read about.....my jaws lock open if I yawn too wide!!!! The first time it happened I panicked and had my husband rush me to the dentist to reposition and close my jaws, but then I learned how to maneuver them closed myself. What a frightening feeling!!! But, I really never considered TMJ! I am trying not to get too upset about all this. For the most part, it is reassuring to read all these posts (except the ones about tumors! Those are very upsetting!) I have been on antibiotics twice in the past 6 months and each time the dizziness, etc. seemed to go away for a time. Then, it was back!! So, I kind of think it's to do with my sinuses, ears, etc. But, I have never gone through the many, many tests that I read about on this board. Again, I am trying to remain calm and not get myself thinking horrible things.

I was wondering about TMJ too. I never really thought about it until I read on a site about a "crunching sound" you get near your ears (among other things) and I do have that crunching sound. It used to click and now it crunches. I was thinking of getting a night guard. I know my sinuses are the main culprit though, for the past 3 days I have been waking up with a sinus headache. Now I am on to trying Flonase...see what happens there.

What is so weird about this disorder is how you can feel so absolutely terrible one day and the next be just fine. Saturday I felt really lousy. Then yesterday, (my birthday), I felt just great. No symptoms at all! Go figure http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif I'm not complaining....I had a wonderful day. No nausea, no dizziness, no headache....! Why does this thing come and go? Should I feel relieved that it probably isn't anything really terrible assuming that I wouldn't have such a great day if it were something really serious? Well, I'm hoping for another day just like yesterday. My uncle used to have this little saying that I loved...it went something like this. "You need to bang your head against the wall for a while to appreciate how good it feels when you stop" (or words to that effect!) How true. I truly appreciate every day that I feel "normal" and yesterday what I noticed was that for all the nice things that my children did for me and the lovely day that I had, the only thing that really mattered was that I felt good!

If---as you said in one of your prior post---the Doc was correct when he/she diagnosed you with:

..."Vestibular Labyrinthitis".....

Then---its not at all unusual---as many who post here will tell----it is part of getting well---that most of us are going through(or went through)---it called "compensation".

You can read about it here:

Vestibular Injury:

Compensation, Decompensation, And Failure to Compensate

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~boismier/Compensa.htm

I found the below web page to be helpful---while---on the surface---it looks like---a article on "VN"---in reality it is about:

...."The syndrome.........commonly called vestibular neuritis, although other terms such as "vestibular neuronitis," "labyrinthitis," "neurolabyrinthitis," and "unilateral vestibulopathy of unknown cause" have also been used.".....

It is recent(Mar 2003) and is located at:
