Hi,
I have been on generic fosomax for about 2 months and have had some muscle pain in my hip or seat area....I guess you would call it:o anyway it has been kind of painful to sleep at night and when I sit in the car. Is this something I should tell my doctor about. I know the paper work that came with the precription mentions muscle pain as a side effect. I just don't know if it's something to worry about or not. It kind of feels like I have over worked the muscle by exercising, but I know that isn't the case becasue it has lasted about a week so far. Has anyone else had muscle pain from it.
Thank you for any help.:)

I would let your doctor know that your having side effects. Then you can decide if you want to keep taking it.

Okay, thank you. I just wasn't sure if it's a serious side effect or not. So I guess I should let them know. It does feel a little better today after a week. Thank you very much I really appreciate it.

I couldn't tolerate Fosamax, it made my stomach on fire. So never took it long enough to see if it caused me muscle pain. What did your doctor say?

Hi BrittleD,
While I'm not permitted to mention specific websites, I can tell you that you can go to any search engine, type in something like ''bisphosphonate medication side-effects'' and you'll probably come up with plenty of info on this subject. Much more than what the pharmaceutical company listed in their print-out!

Hi taape,
Well, I haven't talked to my doctor yet, but I'm thinking I should call Monday.
The paper work that came with the prescription also mentions mouth sores, and now I have those too. So far it hasn't bothered my stomach.
Thank you;)

D:)Hi BrittleD,
I think you should stay with this site, I was taking Forteo and was not happy with what side effects it might have down the road. I am now taking
Strontium (Bone Maker) . There is plenty of alternatives besides
drugs. We just have been trained to follow doctors orders. Good luck with this site. It has been on eye opener.

Hi KATC45, Taape and montesflus:)
I will stay with this site. Everyone has been very helpful and nice. :) I was on Forteo for 15 months, then I had a DEXA and my bones were worse, but the DEXA was done on a different machine so I'm not sure if it made a difference or not. I went from 3.0 to 3.3 on the Forteo. I have been off and on Fosomax for about 2 months. If I get a side-effect, I call the doctor and they tell me to stop it for 2 weeks and see if it goes away. So that has happened once before, so I talked to the doctor today and told them about the mouth sore and muscle pain, they said that it was very rare that people get mouth sores or muscle pain, but they told me to go off it again for 2 weeks to see if it goes away. That's were I am right now. I would love to find out more about Strontium and use that, but I don't know if my doctor would help me with that or not. I do have an appointment in 2 weeks so I will ask about it then. I'll have to find some information on it and take it with me. Thank you for all the help everyone:wave:

Hi BrittleD,
I very much doubt that your doc would have even heard of Strontium. Most docs just push what the big pharma companies bring to them.
Many posters on this board are using Strontium Citrate which can be purchased either online or in certain health food stores (depending on the state you live in). I believe it's cheaper online. It's NOT a prescription med, but rather it's over-the-coounter. There is a prescription version of this med called ''Strontium Ranelate'', but this is not available in the US. It is, however, available in Europe.
Do continue to check out the various online forums re bisphosphonate side-effects. They're very informational.
Good Luck:wave:
