Why the heck do I have ear fullness? Sometimes it is worse than others, but I can always make my eustachian tubes "unstick." I mean I can kind of "yawn internally" and have them make a "unsticky" typoe noice sort of like to damp surfaces being removed from each other. Hard to explain but the ENT seems to think everything is alright and that it should go away on its own... have any of you had this type of symptom. My other symptoms like naseau and "vertigo" and/or headaches have all seemingly left so I am assuming things are getting better... but this ear thing is just sooo annoying because no one (including my ENT and I) know what it is. He did say that it was possible to get a virus that can infect the eustachian tubes... so hopefully that was it and it is just taking an incredibly long time to go away?
Any feedback would be wonderful... thanks guys (and gals http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif ).

Dustin, just curious...how long have you had symptoms?

Your Eustachian tubes are getting stuck closed, basically this is glue ear, something I'm currently trying to shake.
Fluid builds up in the middle ear and the ET's are to inflamed to allow it to clear.
The valsalva manoeuver (close mouth, pinch nose, try to blow out of nose) should help.

I have this same problem now. My ENT is not sure where to begin to determine the cause. Basically I have hearling loss because of it, my ears feel full, some days they don't feel too bad, others days my ears are stuffed right up. I Had vertigo for 3 weeks once, and i get nasous on occasion, usually toward the end of a long day. The ENT was thnking I had an inner ear infection, or Meniere's disease. I am not sure because a lot of my symptoms can fall into most categories.

I've had this feeling for a few months now.... The ENT has no idea and since my symptoms have been getting less and less he simply hopes that this feeling and the "symptoms" that go along with it will go away by themselves. I hope that too... I just hope its SOON because this is annoying stuff.
If you guys know anything or have any idea what this might be please comment... I think its some fluid that in my eustachian tubes because I feel some relief when I run my fingers down the sides of my neck right behind my ears.
Anyway, thanks for any advice any of you can provide.

I got this at the end of August. My ENT thinks it is some sort of virus. I know how annoying it is......wish I felt Like I did 2 months ago. I still get this off balance feeling......I hate it.
I do have loads of allergies which don't help......nor does humidty. Maybe I would be better living in Alaska.
Seems like there are some strange virus going around these days. Sure not like the old day.s

Dustin, Lots of reading here will tell you, you're not
alone. Get a Coronal CT & a copy of your report in case
you change docs. Your pressure behind the ear is most
likely inflammation. Your E-Tubes are in the back of
your throat & run `over' to the ears. Swallow & they
tug & probably pop some. Chronic dizzy means you need
to go to a Neurotologist for tests. If there's fluid in
your ears, ENT should do culture. Maybe that will tell
them the match-up antibiotic if needed. Menieres has
chronic tinnitis. Any wet ear canals? May need Rx drops
for ears. May need new Dr. Been there, done that too!

Thanks for the responses. I don't have wet ear canals and I hope that I will not need a new doc... just got this one http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif But I would have to say it feels like inflamation and fluid up in my ears... what is a "culture"? Is that like scraping stuff out of ETs... because if it is I would pay any amount of money to have that done http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I can see the relief now... even it is is only for a minute or two http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I heard of someones doctors sticking a little camera up into their ETs... I was hoping that that might be done... because the ear pressure test and sound test were both pretty darn close to perfect (right ear slightly off, but nothing much to indicate blocked ETs).
Anyway, thanks for the feedback and any other comments are always appreciated.

KIDINSANITY

Hi. I am currently going through that. My ENT finally had to put an incision in my ear drum and suction out the sticky brown sh** that was in there. (I'm assuming this is something like glue ear.) Then my ENT put a drainage tube in to let whatever is left drain out. I have to keep it in till December. I had the fullness, vertigo, nausea for no reason, etc. The symptoms are less and less now.......It really stinks when you spend the day puking and can't get out of bed for no reason. Unfortunately, we temporarily live upstairs from my Mom, so when I'm in bed puking, she thinks I'm hung over! She needs to get a life.
Good Luck

Yeah see I don't even having the puking and extreme dizziness... a month ago or so I had much worse symptoms... now my symptoms are just more mental I think because I have had this full ear feeling for soooo long... and I'm just sick of it. Do you feel a little release if you run your fingers down the side of your neck right behind your ears? Cause I swallow some stuff when I do that and I feel almost normal for like one second http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Dustin
I was on this board for ages about 4 months ago. I have the fluid build up in the middle ear and my Eustachian tubes feel sticky. I have been to ENT's neurologists, my normal doctor and various other types of therapists. I have had a few different diagnoses 1. I caught a virus and that has made my lymphatics not drain as well. there are lots of herbs that can help drain lymphatics and/or therapy like cranial osteopath, b****'s therapy or I suppose from reading these posts you can have it drained by grommets. My other diagnoses is that I have a bad bite with my jaw and that because I have been grinding my teeth at night and clenching my jaw I have caused my tmj muscles to spasm, when they spasm around the Eustachian tubes they cause them to contract and not drain properly. I don't know I think it is a bit of both with me, as I have aches and pains in my body. As I said before there are lots of good immune enhancing herbs etc that can help with these problems so maybe, if you can afford it, see a naturopath.
good luck

Very interesting... thank you for the feedback. That "sticky" feeling in the ETs is the most accurate description I could give this http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I have been taking a ton of vitamins hoping that I could give my body a little boost in kicking this thing out of my system. I first started getting this while on a vacation, so I'm leary about any tight muscles etc... because this all started when I should have been completely relaxed http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif But who knows... herbs might work... Is a naturopath covered under insurance? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Anyway thanks for the feedback and any other ideas are always welcome.

Hi Dustin,
I have heard of this symptom before. Is it really uncomfortable? I would never be able to live with it! I hope you feel better!

yes, i too caught this while on holiday. Another one of my diagnoses which mainstream doesn't agree with is that i have a fungal infection in my sinuses. I got told this by a man who is reknown for looking in people's eyes and knowing what is wrong with them. He is Chilean and learnt all this by living in the mountains with the Indians. It certainly fits with the aches and pains i've been having and the fact that my ears always feel full of stuff. I have had a MRI and that didn't show any sinus congestion, so it isn't bacterial for me, and i think if i had a bacterial infection i would know about it. Sometimes the body may fight an infection and that is why the fluid is there but then it doesn't drain away properly but is sterile, so maybe its just a matter of draining it out. I'm from australia so I don't know if insurance covers naturopaths. good lymphatic drainage herbs are cleavers and baptisia, but i think its best if someone prescribes them to you. Luckily for me my GP is into herbs as well as normal meds.
good luck kippers. let me know if you come up with a fix.

Dustin I have the exact same symptoms execept I also have ringing in my ears. Do you? I was extremely sick approxiamtely 6 weeks ago with vertigo and inflammed sinuses. I felt really sick for approximately 4 weeks. Stuffy nose causes stuffy ears. Now I am getting better but it's taking it's time. My ears pop when I'm in the car driving and crackle when I swallow or yawn. I also get funny headaches that I never got before. My ENT specialist perscribed nanonex for one month so we'll see what happens. This is driving me crazy too because my balance is slightly off at times when my ears feel full.

Hello everyone,
Not sure about the fungal thing but what do I know http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I do notice relief more so during the morning after I get a good long sleep so I think my body will be able to kill whatever this is off if I can just give it a whole bunch of time to "focus on the problem" (what I mean is more sleep). I wish I had a chilean doctor here in Wisconsin he could both help me with my ears and my college spanish class http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif But I don't http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif
I also do not have ringing in my ears and my symptoms back when they were strong were naseau, and headaches and stuff... never any real ear PAIN... just lots of icky feelings... and now the only thing really left is this icky feeling in my ears and the wonderful anxiety or "clostophobic" feelings that tend to go with clogged up ears. I also don't have specific times when my ears crackle or pop... its more just whenever I move the muscles around up there out of my free will (if that makes sense).
But anyway gotta get up real real early tomorrow so I need to get to bed... thanks for all the comments... all are appreciated greatly.
Dustin
