Bystolic and Heart rate Question. Is it too low? [Archive]

Hello,

I am 41 and have high Blood Pressure. I am taking Quinapril 30mg for a couple of years now. I started experiencing racing heartbeat once in a while and my physician advised me to take Bystolic 5.0Mg. My blood pressure is in control now.

But I am experiencing low pulse since I started Bystolic. It ranges from 50 beats per minute while resting to 65 beats per minute. Usually during resting the heartbeat is ranging between 50-60 beats per minute.

Please advice if I my heart rate is too low or if this is normal while on Bystolic. I am planning to call my Doctor on Monday and talk to her about reducing the dosage to 2.5Mg if needed.

Any thoughts are suggestions are appreciated.

my pulse rate is usually 50-65, I didn't think that was low. That was even before BP meds.

Unmedicated, mine is in the same range - even occasionally dipping down to 48 or so. I've talked to my doctor about it and he says since there are no other accompanying symptoms (dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue) that he does not see it as a concern.

I was told by a doctor that when your heart-rate is too low is when symptoms of it start to emerge, i.e. light-headedness, fatigue, etc.

Mine, when resting, is also between 50 and 60.

Thank you all for your replies and for the helpful information. Prior to taking Bystolic my resting heart rate used to be in the range of 75 to 80 bpm. When racing it used to range from 90 to 100 bpm. The highest I noted when racing was 120 bpm for no apparent reason.(without any physical exertion at all)

I was started on Bystolic 5mg in the last week of December 2008. Now, Bystolic seems to control it really well.

I have seen no symptoms so far except for very occasional shortness of breath and little fatigue, but nothing really notable.
