what to expect after a simple nephrectomy. O.K. I'm new at this so any help will be appreciated. I want to know about the top line in this post. I'm going in to have a kidney removed by laproscopy.

I had it done in July, went in at 7:00 am for surgery was in my room by 11:30 am was walking around by 4:00pm. Doctor said I could go home the next day if I wanted considered it but was talked out of by my wife and nurse, stayed two nights in the hospital. First week home was spent taking short walks and napping. I spent the first 4 nights in my lazy boy as it seemed more comfortable on the stomach muscles, if you have to cough hold a pillow on your stomach as it will not hurt as much. The first week was the worst part for soreness where the surgery was done. I was driving by 2 weeks mowing the lawn by 3 weeks. You will find you do not have the stamina you did and will need naps to help. Its been 5 months since my surgery and for the most part I am back to normal still get sore if I overdue it.
The most important thing you can do for yourself is to get out and walk ASAP after your surgery and keep taking small walks throughout the day. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hi, im 20 and i had this procedure done in nov 2008. i was in hospital for 3 nights.coughing and sneezing can be slightly problematic at first. as said above getting mobile quickly helps a great deal even if you dont really feel like it. little and often. keep drinking water. you will feel tired, i felt exhausted but it passes and you feel better each day. the experience for me was life changing particularly undergoing this procedure at a relatively young age.

in the first couple of days you feel achey because of the air put inside you. it made my shoulder in particular very sore. i also got swollen particularly when standing if you do i found a hot water bottle to be a great remedy.

needless to say by december 28 i travelled round the world for a month without a problem.

good luck

tom
